I found this hotel after an extensive tripadvisor search for a last minute room. The thing that made this hotel even more worthwile, is that I booked a "Tuesday special" - on a Tuesday evening, they release any remaining last minute rooms for the upcoming weekend - buy one get one free, so I paid €70 for a complete weekend (Friday and Saturday night, 2 people B&B), which I thought was great.
The location is very good, with the surrounding streets full of small, authentic shops and restaurants. There is also a Spar supermarket 100m down the road for water/juice/snacks. The bus stop to get off the 98 airport bus is Le Port (Rue de Fodere), €4 per person per journey, and the bus to Monaco (nr. 100) is around the corner (also called Le Port, but another street), €1 per person per journey.
The hotel's service was very friendly, and the breakfast, after reading reviews and lowering my expectations with each review, turned out to exceed my expectations! It's tasteful - I was expecting some youth hostel type breakfast where you had to fight for food, after reading these reviews! However, the croissants were crispy and fresh, no queues for the very good coffee, a selection of yoghurts, jams etc. and you can even press your own fresh orange juice. It was really adequate.
I selected a double room with armchair bed - thus a double bed (bed was very comfortable, 1.6m x 2m), and a single sofa that could be turned into a single bed. The room was spacious, the TV large, although limited English channels (BBC, CNN, and NHK). The wifi only worked in the lobby (and we were on the second floor, which didn't pick it up). I also asked for a quiet room, far from elevators, but was put next to the elevator??? I didn't ask to be moved, as that elevator was out of service and perhaps they didn't have these room types in other locations. It turned out fine. Very little street noise.
All in all, I would stay here again in a jiffy, especially at the Tuesday special rate. We walked everywhere in Nice. Try local pizzeria, Socca D'Or in Rue Bonaparte, a few blocks from the hotel - we couldn't get into Les Amoureux, and it didn't look that nice either! Socca D'Or had great pizzas and we were the only tourists there!
