“Functional only but a great location.”

The Kyriad is located a couple hundred metres behind the northern end of Nice Port, in a corner of town that is frankly run-down and in serious need of a spruce-up. But a couple of hundred yard further away from the Port, that spruce-up is in full swing, with the finishing touches being made to the façades surrounding the great Place Garibaldi and, to one side, a ten-acre (minumum) concrete expanse of the former bus sheds being turned into a public park.

Alongside the old terminal, tiny dark alleys dart away into the shady depths of Nice Old Town and open into sun-splashed squares where you can take coffee, a drink or a meal.

Oh yes, the hotel. There are three important things about a hotel: location, cleanliness and comfort. Ignore its immediate surrounds and the Kyriad is brilliantly situated; it's clean but needs a spruce-up; and the rooms are standard two-star cramped, but comfortable enough.

I would have classified it as average but, most unusually for a budget hotel, it offers a generous buffet breakfast which in my view should push the hotel into your consideration.

Room Tip: Want to avoid high prices and tourist hordes? Worth a look.

“BED BUGS & SMELLY ROOM”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

Please do not stay at this hotel because the trauma and discomfort aren't worth it. I stayed here last month for 2 nights. From the moment we arrived there were issues.

First there was the awful smell (like rotten eggs) coming from the bathroom. We notified the front desk and they seemed neither concerned or surprised. The guy came up and tried to spray a deoderizer, but the help was minimal and not long lasting. His reasonng was that the room (I believe #320) hadn't been used in a long time so no air had circulated through. We tried to change rooms/hotels but had no luck. The windows were sealed shut so we couldn't even open them for fresh air.

The worst part of this stay were the BED BUGS. On the first night there we noticed a small insect, but after killing it tried to forget about it. After the second night I noticed over 40 welts on my arms, legs, neck, back and feet. At this time I still didn't know where they came from, since I wasn't familiar with what bed bugs liked. We left the next morning for our next hotel in another city and my entire body was itching. Looking at the bites, they didn't look like mosquito bites so I beceme suspicious. Once we arrived I used the hotels wifi to research and found that the bites were in fact from bed bugs. I believe since I slept on the cot,I had the worse of it.

I emailed the hotel to notify them, and I've yet to hear any reply.

Please STAY AWAY unless you like drama and headaches.

See my photos.

Room Tip: dont stay here. if you do you're risking your health and safety.

“Hotel Kyriad Nice Port”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2011

The hotel itself, admittedly, is nothing fancy. Perhaps the age of the property is responsible for the small problem we did encounter (slow shower drain). Its deOsign, though, is practical--serves the purpose for a brief transitional stay. On the other hand, the location is ideal. It's very easy to catch public transportation to cities surrounding Nice, i.e. Monaco. Additionally, it's very close to the Port of Nice. It is important to note that the hotel is close enough to walk to the port only if you have very light luggage, i.e. backpack or small roller bag. We were told that the distance is not far enough to make it worth the while of any taxi. The most outstanding feature of this hotel is its customer service. All of the agents at the front desk were very accommodating. They were all knowledgeable and willing to assist with any needs. The manager, Daniel, went out of his way to make our stay an enjoyable one. We'll be back!

“Don't go.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2011

The worst hotel I've ever been in my whole life! We had to change the rooms twice: the first one smelled cigarrete smoke all over it and the second one had the 'famous' bed bugs! Awful!

“SCARY!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2011

I do not recommend this hotel. The room was very small, the bathroom needs renovation.
Found an insect in my White bedsheets and my friend and I had an allegy on our skin which was later on diagnosed as insect bites. SCARY!! We were also asked to pay at arrival.
