The Kyriad is located a couple hundred metres behind the northern end of Nice Port, in a corner of town that is frankly run-down and in serious need of a spruce-up. But a couple of hundred yard further away from the Port, that spruce-up is in full swing, with the finishing touches being made to the façades surrounding the great Place Garibaldi and, to one side, a ten-acre (minumum) concrete expanse of the former bus sheds being turned into a public park.
Alongside the old terminal, tiny dark alleys dart away into the shady depths of Nice Old Town and open into sun-splashed squares where you can take coffee, a drink or a meal.
Oh yes, the hotel. There are three important things about a hotel: location, cleanliness and comfort. Ignore its immediate surrounds and the Kyriad is brilliantly situated; it's clean but needs a spruce-up; and the rooms are standard two-star cramped, but comfortable enough.
I would have classified it as average but, most unusually for a budget hotel, it offers a generous buffet breakfast which in my view should push the hotel into your consideration.
