I booked the hotel bacause of the price and location. Both were great, but as one can guess, you get what you pay for. Very scrumby, moist and a bit sticky.. Wall papers in horrible state. Air conditioning started working after the third day. We had to put towels on the floor because of the dirty feeling carpet. Usually you don't have to wear shoes inside, though I don't know if it's a french custom.. Also, we had a room in 3rd floor facing the street, no-one staring in but a busline going under the window kept us awake in the night.
Anyway, the sheats were changed every day and the bed was fine. A perfect place if you only need a place to crash. The beach, shops an the old town is very close, you really don't need to stay in the hotel at all. We left in the morning and came back in the evening to sleep. Didn't eat the breakfast at the hotel and probably it was the best choise.
We've tried several hotels in Nice and haven't found one yet that fits our price to quality ratio. The hotels are either too expensive or are located in out of the way places. This hotel really has great location and the man running the place was very accommodating for our small group. There was street construction going on and the traditional shutters did not keep the noise out. I suspect the construction will be done by early summer 2010. There must be a few bars close by as well because each night around 1:30AM there would be several noisy groups going by on the street. The hotel is OK but I'm not sure I'd stay again. We'll just keep trying. Most of the time we are interested in saving money for the group we travel with rather than finding the perfect hotel. This hotel gets the average rating because nothing really sticks out but I've been to much worse in Nice too.
My room was broken into and a couple hundred dollars worth of my belongings were taken while I was staying at the Hotel Carlyna. When I told the Carlyna staff of my misfortune they told me that this was impossible. They did not believe me until another persons room was broken into as well. This hotel is not worth the money they charge, not to mention very unsafe!
Excellent location, that's all. Room fittings were old and falling apart, bathroom large but inadequate, air-conditioning did work, however. No one at reception when we arrived, had to wait for a while. Breakfast highly unremarkable for the price. In need of a big, big renovation.
