i visited in the hotel several times and enjoyed staying there.
the hotel is located in a central area so the price is worthwhile.
the service is nice and i will definitely return.

While we stayed at this hotel we were robbed. The Hotel offered very little assistance nor did the local police. We are at a loss as to how we were robbed as the room was on level three and the door was locked when we were out, We were not offered use of the hotel safe.We thought we were in a better part of Nice but obviously we were wrong. Be careful if you stay here.

We had no advance booking, but after a 13 hour drive to Nice we managed to find 2 rooms for 5 people (not an easy number) in the second hotel. The Carlton in Nice is a modest place in a nice area, not far from the lovely promenade. Although there is a big road in front of the hotel, it was quiet at night. Small and simple (the pictures are much glossier on their website than in real life) but good value for the location, ideal for transients. There are quite a few underground car parks nearby, so parking is not a problem. (Although you have to be careful with roof boxes because underground car park seem to have low ceilings here.) I don't think the rooms are cosy enough for a longer stay but for a couple of nights the place is fair enough.

Like the previous reviewer, we were booked at Malmaison but on arrival were told that someone had been taken ill and our room was not available. Therefore, they had made us a reservation at the Hotel Carlton. I trust this is just a coincidence?! Looking at other reviews maybe the Carlton has some rooms that have been renovated. However, we saw no evidence of this. Our room was shabby (but not at all chic) and not very clean.

I have to say that the hotel write up is inaccurate as well. There is no bar or 24 room service. Upon check in no-one gave us any information about breakfast times etc or in fact registered us. We had breakfast the next day and it was at best (if we're being kind) basic.

The staff were not exactly unhelpful just not at all interested or enthused.

We returned to Malmaison and complained more forcefully and they then moved us to the Hotel Nice Riviera. A lovely clean hotel with helpful, professional staff. A pity Malmaison did not do this initially as a fair bit of time was wasted on our weekend break. It was our first weekend away on our own without children for 11 years and this did spoil it a little.

I would be wary of booking Malmaison given it's levels of bad luck (?) and would not recommend Carlton to anyone.
