“safety, frindlyness”

I have the opportunity to stay in this hotel apartment in November 2011, this is a budget hotel but the crew are totally friendly, I'm surprised from the bad reviews, you may check-in at noon or even before. you can stay at the lobby with self service of Tea & coffee 24/24 free + internet free at business center 24/24. nobody can enter to the hotel or parking lot without security code. the site in Rue de FRANE, is near the beach & 5 minutes from airport & other places (Markets, Restaurants, Hotels, Bakery etc).
if I deside to visit nice again it will be my favorite.

Room Tip: 1 bedroom apartment for 4 persons.

“Worst place to stay in Europe !!!”

We would do the same as one of the other traveler's posted here if we could put in negatives it would be a minus 5 . We were booked for a week and a day. The staff we found were nice but after that in one word .....unbelievable !!! Our room started with a pungent and unpleasant odor. As much as we tried to get rid of the odor with scented candles and expensive room freshener sprays we were unsuccessful. Then there was the bed a pull out hide a bed that was so uncomfortable that we couldn't sleep on it ......it felt like sleeping on the concrete sidewalk. On a side note we should have run from this place when we noticed a bunch of old mattresses at the opening to the parking area. Then the bathroom well it was very small we couldn't use the bathtub/shower as there was mold for health reasons. But thats not the worst we went to Nice France as a couple for a romantic holiday only to have prostitutes standing out from of our hotel working !!! We had booked a week plus a day here and after 2 days there we spent a day of our holidays looking for another hotel to stay at in Nice ...... we did stay at the Best Western Premier it was great ! We tried to get some of our money back from The Citadines for over a year but they took our money and we weren't able to get a refund. We would NEVER use a Citadine Hotel ever again on our travels !!

Room Tip: We stayed there in Oct/2010 they don't allow us to select that month. Go to another hotel in Nic...

“Clean and comfortable, but small for an apartment.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 July 2011

The Citadines is close to the beach, but a little bit of a walk from the best areas of Nice. Other than one employee who was a real knob, the rest of the front desk staff were great. The room we had was very clean and secure. They offer laundry service, which was convenient. The breakfast, as well as the laundry, are pretty expensive compared to what you can get elsewhere, but once again convenient. The internet was pretty slow by Western standards, but it worked. My family and I enjoyed our experience here, but do not go here expecting four or five star service. I would rate it a two or three star experience.

“Don't stay here, you are better off at a hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 June 2011

If I could give zero stars that is what this place would get. I don't even know where to start on this one. we had decided to stay at an apartment in order to be more comfortable than a hotel, but boy were we misled and mistaken.

Whilst we were checking in we find out that they didn't have any of our details and almost didn't have a room to stay in.

when this was all finally sorted out an and get into our small studio room, we look around and there is no bed in our room! There is only a sofa in there that stretches out into a bed!!

So we went downstairs to speak to reception and asked the staff where our bed was??

The guy at the front desk simply said that when you book a studio room you don't necessarily get a bed in you room. He proceeded to say that in Europe it is quite normal when you book a studio apartment you may or may not get a bed when you book and that you would have to specifically request a bed but could not always be guaranteed. I was absolutely shocked to get that sort of response.

Considering we were paying so much to stay at this studio apartment, we were flabbergasted that this was even possible. We asked to change rooms and to put us in a room that had a bed as we have sleeping and back issues so could not contemplate sleeping on a lumpy sofabed. As it was Monaco GP weekend it was very busy and there was no way to change our room . This was totally unacceptable as I would have been better off staying at a backpackers hotel, at least that way i would get my own bed!

the hotel website was so misleading and we even booked this hotel through a travel agent and when we mentioned this situation to the travel agent, they didn't know about this either.

The guy at the hotel advised that may people have complained about having stay on a sofabed and that it had been brought up with Management but nothing had been done about it. He had the gall to say that the sofabed looks uncomfortable and that is suprisingly a good sleep. It was actually insulting to say that to a guest who cannot sleep on a sofabed and has paid to stay on a bed!

When we pulled out the sofabed to sleep on, you could not open or close the door to go to the bathroom. You could not turn around in bed as you would sink into the middle of the bed and it would squeak so loud that it would wake the other person up.

The layout of the "studio apartment" was so bad, you had the toilet where the kitchen was and the shower, sink and bathroom in another room. The hot water system was turned off after a certain time and unless you manually switched the water tank on you would not get any more hot water.

the air conditioning unit was really bad too, you could not control the temperature and when you had it on high, it still felt like it was off.

The only positive thing about the room was the Free ADSL internet in your room which you were able to use.

The room was not subject to housekeeping, towel changes and linen change. If we had stayed there for more than 4 days then we would have been charged for housekeeping and cleaning. What a joke!

Then the breakfast service was the worst I have ever in my life experienced. Unless you got there very early between 7-7:30 you would miss out on the breakfast essentials and the would not replenish the breakfast items.

The first day for breakfast we got there quite early and were able to have some cereal, croissant, yoghurt, bread and ham or cheese. The next couple of days we went to have breakfast a little later and it was so measly, there was no more yoghurt, there was cereal but not bread and not cups for coffee. What was more unusual, the staff would stand there watching everyone eat which was quite awkward but never replenished of the basic breakfast items. The next day there was a few slices of cheese left but no bread. then there was milk but no cereal. I have never ever experienced such nonsense and although I was not expecting an elaborate breakfast, such as eggs, bacon or an array of pastries but at the bare minimum I would expect there to be some bread to spread with the butter.

The hotel/apartment is located about 2 minutes from the main beach promenade, but a little out of the way of the main town and restaurants.

I would never recommend this place to anyone else and I would suggest to others that you would be better off staying at a hotel as the staff didn't care and are fully aware that a sofabed is not adequate accommodation for someone to stay in but didn't care about accommodating their guests.

“Good for long stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2011

My husband and I and another couple stayed here 21 to 28 May 2011. We had 2 studio apartments. Apartments had microwave, hotplates and small fridge. Above the bath there was a pull out clothesline which we found very handy. We were in room 308 I think and we had a reasonable size balconey with a small table and chairs which we used mostly at night. The room looked over a courtyard area and the room was very quiet. The bed was a sofa bed which was adequate. Rooms are a little tired though. The towels etc were changed mid week. One thing I think could have been in the room were towels that you could use at the beach as travelling from New Zealand these weren't something we wanted to take with us. The staff were extremely helpful with giving instructions for buses and trains to the various areas along the Riviera. In fact they provided us with bus timetables which was very helpful as the timetables also had the various stops which you could follow on route. A breakfast was provided at an extra cost but we didn't use this facility. Internet was availble in the rooms by cable, but unfortunately I wasn't able to connect with this. Free wireless was available in the loby with a hotel computer or your own so this was good. There was a surpermarket within walking distance and also the Promenade Anglais was one block away. All in all a good location and good hotel. We would stay again.
