We stayed at the Windsor Hotel Feb 4th-7th 2012. Picked just about the coldest time in the last couple of years according to the locals. Who from our experience are all very friendly by the way.
Still the cold did not detract from a truly fantastic break. We informed the hotel that it was for a special occasion as it was my wifes Birthday and we are in our 25th Wed Anniversary year!
We were automatically upgraded. The rooms are ok a little "shabby chic" possibly. However on this occasion we prefffered this as it felt more like the 'Real France' rather than the same old contemporary and sometimes pretentious Hotels you can get.
The staff are very friendly and helpfull. The food in the hotel restaurant was also pretty good and to be fair in my opinion no more expensive than an equivalent restaurant in England.
The best tips I can offer any potential guests is. Firstly go to the little restaurant just 50 yds down the road on the same side as the Hotel. "Allure Instant" I think it's called from memory or something very similar. Food lovely and staff brilliant. They had recently opened and greeted us with free champagne and a free mint liquer each at the end of our delicious meal
Secondly use the public transport ! Particularly the buses. Amazing!!! We travelled the 45 min trip to Monaco from Nice for 1-Euro each and the following day we travelled 1hr-15 mins to the equally fantastic Cannes again for the miserly sum of 1-Euro each. And they say that this part of the world is expensive ? Try travelling anywhere in the uk for that. You would'nt get 50 yds up the road, let alone a seat.
We really could have spent a week here travelling around. When you leave the airport you can get a bus right outside the terminal to Nice centre. Takes about 20-mins and is only 4-Euro each, for a day pass. You can then use this on any bus travelling anywhere for the rest of that day until midnight.
We will return to this fab place but maybe spring next time. Go here and enjoy your stay !!!
