The hotel is within walking distance of Garibaldi Square or a tram ride away too. We checked in and found the room to be spacious, clean and air-conditioned. Unfortunately, the bed linen smelt of cigarettes. You couldn't escape from the smell in the room either. The receptionist stated that all rooms are non-smoking on the floor and all smoking rooms are on the floors below floor 3. This does not make sense as smoke rises - seeps through walls, ceilings etc.

The hotel manager was lovely! She moved us to a higher floor - the room again was clean and spacious but no cigarette smell. We were happy with the result. The only down side to the stay was the thread bare towels - especially after hot, sweaty days out in Nice... you need a cooling shower and something soft to dry yourself with.

Everything else was okay - Internet in the main foyer was free and able to print boarding passes to the receptionists printer - an added bonus for those of you flying on budget airlines and want to queue jump at Nice International.

I would recommend that you stay on the floors above level 3 - the manager was very welcoming and accommodated our request to change rooms.

Stayed here in August 2011. Arrived about 9pm after having travelled on various trains all day. Arrived in my non-smoking room which stank so much of cigarettes that I immediately had to take my asthma inhaler. Was told by reception that this was the only "non-smoking" room available and that due to the air conditioning system smoke from other floors can be circulated through the system. Slept poorly through the night and woke with all my clothes smelling like I'd spent all night in a club.
The morning receptionist was extremely apologetic and arranged for our luggage to be moved to another room during the day. The new room was fine without any hint of smoke. Both rooms however were slightly lacking compared to usual IBIS with threadbare, very small towels, marks on the bathroom furnishings, extremely thin pillows and thin sheets. There is a shopping centre just down the road with a large supermarket and some take-away shops.

Once the room was sorted things were much better but overall I'd expect much more from an IBIS. You must make sure that you visit Monaco - just a short train ride away.

Go with the right expectations and you'll love this place. Comparitively cheaper than other expensive hotels in nice, this is a good value for money hotel rightfully located close to old town, if you don't mind a little bit of walking around. We visited this hotel in Sep 2011 and liked it so much that we extended our stay for a third night and opted to spend the money saved on a lavish dinner. The old town market is less than 10 mins away, and if you are lazy to walk you can hop on to the tram which is just mins away from their hotel. The rooms were good sized (wouldn't call them small by any angle), with functional bathrooms. Breakfast was basic - I could appreciate some more varieties of eggs or cheese, but this is value for money for ~9 € and a good start to the day. Overall, if you are on a budget trip (and mind it budget is Nice is ~90€ on hotel stay) - I would totally recommend this hotel. If you have more money to splash, go find a hotel closer to the beach e.g. Le Meridiens.
