“Bed Bugs, Broken Windows, Broken Shower, Broken Toilet...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2010

How bad could a two star hotel be? It was cheaper than a hostel. When we checked in, everything looked ok except for the top of the toilet was off, and you had to stick your hand inside and flush it manually. Later on, we opened the curtains to find a broken window pane. No tape or anything holding it together but jagged pieces of glass barely staying in the frame! The windows themselves didn't even close! It was late at night by this stage so we waited until the morning to tell the receptionist. He didn't really seem to understand. By this stage we'd also found the shower head didn't connect properly to the hose as it was broken and the hose didn't fit in the holder so you literally just had hose yourself and hold it the whole time. We are backpacking so didn't complain at this stage. After the 2nd night we woke up covered in bites! I had 40 just on one arm! They were bed bug bites and believe me they itch like crazy. We didn't know what they were at first and didn't complain until our 4th day by which point we had gone on the net and found other similar reviews. We complained and showed them our bites and got moved to another room which was in a pretty good state. Nice was amazing and I'm so glad that we enjoyed Nice despite our terrible time at the hotel. It's been a week since we got bitten and are still covered in bites - it's warm weather and we have to cover up with clothing. NOT FUN! I HOPE THEY FIX ROOM 309!

“Do not stay here”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 June 2010

This is a totally terrible hotel. A friend of ours booked it and never again will I let someone else book a hotel room for me! Yes, it may have been cheaper than most hotels at around 50-70 euros a night but I wouldn't even pay half that.

Where to start....the bed was simply awful, old, smelly and god knows what was in it. The furniture was as old as the hotel, stains on the smelly carpet....it was more like a boarding or halfway house that you would get in England during the 70's. On a positive note, I noticed that they are starting to renovate, they need to hurry up as I couldn't wait to leave.

“Good for Budget Travel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 June 2010

I stayed one night. It is only minutes walking from the Nice train station, and 10-15 walk to the promenade and beach. My room was old and threadbare but clean. Bathroom was also very clean. Front desk was very polite and helpful. Breakfast was adequate. Internet service in lobby was good. This hotel offers good value for the budget traveler.

“ok but not great”

I stayed here as we were going to the Monaco Grand Prix and the hotel I had booked in Monaco had cancelled my reservation. I chose it due to it's close proximity to the train station, we would not be spending much time at the hotel and there was not a huge choice of hotels left. I was not expecting much as it is a 2 star but I found it clean. It is very dated and we had no hair dryer which was a bit annoying also no bin in the room only the bathroom so cleaner would only take the rubbish away if it was in the bathroom.

We stayed 4 nights and on the second night we returned to find our top sheet had been removed and it was never replaced. It is noisy around about and the breakfast staff was not very friendly or helpful......I got the feeling we were just an annoyance and he could not be bothered.

Overall I would not return to the hotel, there is better in Nice but it served its purpose.

“The staff is very nice but the rooms could use some improvement”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 May 2010

I just stayed for 6 nights at this hotel. There were 25 people in my group. The location is very good in the sense that the hotel is near the bus station and the electric train stop. It's also close to the flower market and many nice restaurants. The location is poor because of the traffic noise, but of course the staff has no control over the traffic or the construction that is going on all over the place near the hotel. I saw about 10 of the rooms, and they were all clean. There were definitely quirky things about them, like teeny tiny showers with sliding doors that fall off their runners pretty easily, but let's remember that this is an OLD hotel! It's bound to have some issues! It's not the Ritz-Carlton; it's a bargain hotel, so you shouldn't have high expectations. The staff is very kind, friendly, and helpful! Like I said, we had 25 people in our group, and all of those I spoke with said they had a good experience with the staff. They even served us free champagne on the last night we stayed there. I can't recommend this hotel to a friend, only because I was kept awake by the street noise. If noise doesn't bother you, and you understand that old hotels are not like brand new ones, then you would probably be happy to stay here.
