I have stayed in France many times and know what to expect from a three star hotel, so would never complain about thin walls or a small bathroom. But during a recent stay at De Kent Hotel Nice I was eaten alive by bed bugs and find this totally unacceptable from any hotel.

I have no less than 40 welts on my neck, torso, arms legs and ankles and despite taking high doses of antihistamines and using cortisone creams the itching is intense. I believe it can last for up to two weeks. If you happen to bring these parasites home with you the only options available to you are to move out or burn your house down.

Yes, the Hotel is in a good location, but for me blood sucking parasites are a deal breaker. Just say no!

The hotel is in a superb location, close to the old town, the port, the château, the casinos, the beach, the shopping, etc. However, it needs work to bring it up to the reported 3 stars. I would suggest it is a backpackers stopover at best. The room was tiny - just enough room for a double bed and sit the case on the floor. No drawers, wardrobe, etc. just a dusty shelf and hanging space behind a curtain.
Filthy carpet, but the bed was comfy and clean.
The bathroom was like a small cupboard! Bath not big enough to soak (I'm 5'8"), but nowhere to hang shower head! Sit on the toilet and your feet are pretty much in the bath!! There was good water pressure.
Good soundproofing in room on same level as reception, but you can hear phone ringing, door bell, etc.
Breakfast @ 7 or 7.50 Euros was tea or coffee, orange juice, 1 croissant and 1 bread roll, which was very hard, with butter and jam. Typical fare for south of France.
If they put in new carpets, gave the walls a lick of paint and refreshed the curtains, etc. there is a chance this hotel could pull it off. At the moment? No way.
Bonus is, though, that if you stay here, you want to spend more time out and about anyway. Strangely, it didn't actually spoil my holiday, but it might yours....

Location excellent for train ,bus,shops, restaurants and promenade.

Great location very central to everything but what a dump .The staff were very helpful especially the night staff but the room small and smelt musty .The noise at night was unbelieveable for 3 nights i got no sleepThe bathroom was tiny and very badly arranged the Toilet was jammed between the wall and shower and the ceiling in the shower was very badly water stained and accounted for the smell
