The hotel has the total French feel about it. It's not posh but clean and you are cared for by the very pleasant staff. We stayed B&B and the breakfast was very enjoyable. Our break in June was made all the better for staying here, compared to other hotels we have used. The saying 'You get what you pay for' is true and this place is a bargain.

The Hotel Gounod was the right choice for the right price. Our stay at the end of November was the off-season, thus making it very affordable for the location a 4 blocks from the sea. Keep in mind that you get what you pay for, so keep your expectations reasonable as you likely look for this hotel in search of a mid-priced option.

We had a 2 bedroom suite to accommodate our family of 4, something that seemed to be particularly challenging in Nice. Room 209 had 4 single beds in 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, and small kitchenette (mini-fridge, sink and stove-top). The lobby and breakfast room were welcoming, but the guest rooms showed their age with considerable wear and tear. Our room on the Rue Gounoud was not as quiet as some other reviews mentioned, but others may have been off the street. On-site parking was a bonus, at an additiona charge, but the street parking was extremely limited. The hotel is within walking distance to the train station.

The breakfast was OK, standard offering of cereals, yogurt, cheese, ham & salami, canned fruit, and a choice of croissant or another pastry. Frankly, it was not too much and not exactly memorable. Staff was helpful upon request and provided solid recommendations for dinners that met our needs very well. Interestingly enough, they did not recommend their supposedly more luxurious sister hotel, The Splendid, and I understand why. The Splendid hotel restaurant was OK, but nothing special aside from a panoramic view.

Stayed at this hotel for 5 nights room had tv shower ac balcony & a mini fridge which was good to keep a few beers in because going out was a rip off .staff were friendly & helpful .breakfast room got busy and ran out of food one morning .the train station is nearby but you are a bit of a walk frm the old town

This was our first stay at the Gounod and having read recent reviews for this hotel, we were not disappointed. The room was large on the fifth floor and very quiet, which was important to us. We were able to sit on the balcony enjoying a glass of wine on most days of our stay in the beginning of October. The weather was excellent and as all guest are able to use the facilities at the adjacent hotel, all needs are catered for. The hotel staff were very helpful and comminicated well in English. The rooms may be slightly tired but does not detract from the enjoyment of our stay.
