“A Good Location in Nice”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Mercure Nice Promenade des Anglais. The location of this hotel is very good. It's just off the seafront, Promenade des Anglais, in Nice. When I checked in, I was offered a free upgrade to a room with a view of the sea. The only drawback is the building is undergoing renovations on the exterior. There were men on scaffolding, just outside my room, so, for privacy sake, I kept the curtains drawn. So much for the view. It was cloudy and rainy the entire weeked (obviously not the hotel's fault), so the view was very grey, anyway. Ocassional bangingm during daylight hours, plus some driling noise and I could sometimes hear the workmen talking.

The room was a decent size, especially given that I was alone. I also received a free drink coupon, for the casion next door. I got an adequate rate through Expedia, which included the breakfast buffet. My welcome pack also included a one day bus and tram pass. Sadly, I had bought a pass covering my entire stay, at the airport, so I wouldn't use this. I saved teh one day pass, as I am planning on returning in May. Walking down the side streets, in the opposite direction to teh seafront, one can find affordable eating. There's a Subway and a local burger franchise, both of which provide meals under ten Euros. Further down, there's a Spar supermarket, where one can buy snacks and drinks much cheaper than using the hotel's minibar. During my entire 4 day, 3 night stay, I only spent 80 Euros of my spending money. Another bargain is the bus services to Cannes and Monaco. The riute 200 will take you to Cannes and the 100 to Monoco. The fare is an affordable one Euro, each way. I did without a hire car and was very happy using the public transport.

Back in my hotel room, wireless internet is provided, free, in room. The only drawback is this annoying requirement to re-sign on, every 6 hours of usage. a nice flat screen TV is provided, but, if you don;t speak French, it's of limited utility. I could only find two channels in English, BBC World and CNN International. On a recent trip to the Algarve, in Portugal, I stayed in an independant 3 star property, of a lesser standard than the Mercure, but they provided 4 English channels. The staff were generally pleasent and efficent. I was also allowed a 2 hour late check out, free of charge. All in all, this seems like a decent, 3 star property. The decor in the corridors seemed fresh and modern. The hotel isn't particularly outstanding, but no problems. Location is a great plus. I'd be wiling to stay here again, but would prefer something with a bit more pizzaz. The room was clean and had all the necessary features, although I couldn't get the in room safe to work. The minibar is overly expensive, so I'd avoid using it. Good, but not outstanding, but sometimes, good is good enough.

Room Tip: If you can get a sea view room, hopefully, the scaffolding will be down, soon and you'll get bea...

This hotel is situated at the promenade du anglais. It is very close to the flower market. the walk along the promenade du anglaise is beautiful, we wanted to get room no 123 but it was already booked, We had a room on the ground floor, which was in a way good bcz there r no lifts in this hotel and guests have to take their luggage to their rooms themselves.

Room Tip: 123, BUT GROUND FLOOR REOMMENDED bcz there r no lifts in this hotel and guests have to take their lu...

On arrival the staff were very polite and helpful, was stunned at our room, although classed as a 3 star it deserves far more, clean well thought out. Perfect location. Breakfast was just as one would hope. The whole stay was very pleasant would have absolutely no reservations in retuning. It just made our visit to Nice that much more memorable.

“Nice Location, reasonably priced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

It’s located right at the beach front, although not facing directly the beach. Very cozy hotel.

20 to 25 minutes drive away from the Airport by taxi during peak hours.

Food wise there is nothing inside the hotel. But if yo walk down tne streets, you get all kinds of foods close by.

The beak fast is very simple. But they often mess up the order. English is the major problem.

Bath rooms are cleaner, but they have installed very complicated shower faucets/controls which are not necessary. Simple control would do. The show knobs fall apart.

The rooms are plenty, but it takes a while to get to elevator. The corridors are long and confusing like maze like solving puzzles.

Beds are heated I guess, very warm in winter days. But rooms are stuffy!

I don't know what's up with Eurpeans, they don;t provide proper exhaust fan. When you use toilet you must need proper exhaust fan. There is no proper ventilation system inside the room.

But friendly receptionists, though!

I will come back to this hotel and it is good for family stay.

“Unpleasant stay!”

Recently travelled through Europe and was looking forward to our Nice stopover. When we stayed there, we were not told it was undergoing renovations. The noise was excruciating in the morning. There was a pleasant lady at front desk who tried to help us, however an overbearing, obese, loud and obnoxious man at the front desk would flatly deny that there was any noise (when it was quite obvious) and override whatever she was trying help out with. It made the stay totally unpleasant, when he could have just let the lady do her job (i.e. allow us to move rooms). Because of this obnoxious man, you have ruined the reputation of your hotel! Get rid of him and let the pleasant lady do her job.
