Having read excellent reviews in TripAdvisor we decided to book and pay in advance for a 9 night stay in May this year. We had travelled from Cape Town and were tired. We arrived at noon and were shown to a dingy ground floor room with dirty looking pitted tiled floor and on the tiny terrace were two wicker chairs with rotted seats. We said the room was unacceptable. "No - the hotel was full. No we could not have anything to eat as the restaurant was full.' I asked to see the owners. The General Manager said they were not available. I told him we were not prepared to accept the room and he immediately offered us Room 224 on the first floor of one of the cottages. There would be no extra charge for the upgraded room. Of course we could have something to eat. On arrival we had noticed the electric pylons above the car park and the fact that the hotel is on a busy road. The bedroom was small and the white painted furniture was scratched, with paint peeling off and horrible dabs of black paint to give it a more distressed look. There was only one very small armchair, a writing table and chair. The TV was the smallest flat screen with only French speaking channels. Bearing in mind the huge number of English speaking people staying in France the owners were obviously too mean to pay a few Euros providing some Channels in English and some music. There was WiFi and air conditioning. There were no tea making facilities, which one often finds in luxury hotels. The cost of two small cups of tea brought to your room cost Eu9. The bathroom was small with one wash basin but it was satisfactory. The balcony was good with two chairs and a table and it was a pleasant place to sit and the traffic noise was not obtrusive. The gardens are well cared for but there were hardly any flowers. From time to time music is played through loudspeakers which we were told were for the benefit of people using the pool. A smoothie making machine by the pool makes a terrible noise. A smoothie costs Eu10. The pool area is attractive by there are no mattresses on the loungers - not even a pillow for one's head. The staff are young, attractive and attentive and they seem to be running the hotel. Breakfasts are good but we considered other meals awful. Who wants to eat lamb chops with eucalyptus sauce. That is something I used to have rubbed on my chest as a child. It is used as a disinfectant and for draining swamps. The food is gimmicky and overpriced. It took nearly two hours before our main course arrived and during this time one had to endure horrible music and waiters rushing up and down a staircase which was next to us. The second meal we had was a disaster. During our stay there were several functions for outside people and they made a lot of noise with no regard to people staying at the hotel. We thought the old town of Mougan would be near but it is not and there is no way one can be walking along the Croisette in Cannes within ten minutes even out of season. The cost of the hotel was not excessive but it did not come up to our expectations. From experience it is not a good idea to pay in advance. You always end up with the worst room.

Dear Sir,
I firstly would like to say that I am very sorry and surprised to read that you had such a bad stay with us. We always do our best to make our guests feell at home. After a difficult start, we have talked to you almost every morning and you always told us that everything was going really well. Otherwise we could have told you about how to get the english speaking chanels that are available on our televisions, we could have helped you choosing another meal among our 4 menus and many dishes "à la carte", we could have tried to explain you that because of the heat in the Summer we mostly have green plants in the garden and finaly we could have explained you why during the Cannes film festival it takes more time to go to Cannes. We are here to make sure you enjoy your stay but if you do not tell us during your stay what is going wrong. There is unfortunataly not much we can do.
I am sincerely sorry and I stay at your disposal if you come back to Mougins.
Best regards
Marc SABATIN
General Manager
