“excellent for this type of establishment”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

I don't need to repeat the positive detailed comments already made about Les Citronniers. I would like to emphasize that the location is ideal, central to everything of interest and necessity. I'd like to add also that I arrived early and left my luggage and then was allowed to check-in a little later before reception was closed for lunch because the room was vacant and already cleaned. There are laundry facilities in the building but many items can be washed by hand and placed on the folding dryers on the balcony. You need to pay extra for WiFi and use your computer in the salon but the price is considerably less than most internet cafes. I have a very comfortable bed at home and rarely find the same in France except in 4 star hotels. The bed was similar to what I have experienced in 2 and 3 star hotels. For what you pay it is a very good value.

Room Tip: I don't know if all rooms have a balcony but you definitely want one. Mine was on the west side...

“Bring your own bed.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 May 2010

After having visited Menton on a few occasions staying at different hotels we decided to try an apartment this time. We arrived after the reception was closed but a telephone call enabled us to arrive late without any problems. The apartment and the residence were clean and fresh and the little contact we had with the reception was good. The residence is central and walking distance to whatever your interest is. The street below, though at times very busy, did not disturb us at night or day.
BUT the apartment was said to be for four people, we were lucky as we were only two. If we had been two more it would have felt a little like standing room only. Four would definitely not have been able to be on the balcony at the same time. Having spent my entire working life in the hotel industry I know the importance of a good bed. This was a total disaster. If there had been more room in the apartment it would have been more comfortable to have slept on the floor.

Many thanks for posting you review. We are glad you enjoyed the area and the surrounding activities. For future reference, the exact room dimensions, layout and furnishings of a typical room in the residence are listed in both our website and brochures. This allows customers to analyze and choose the correct room for them and their party prior to booking. We publicly encourage customers to upgrade to a bigger berth room with a separate bedroom should they like to have lots or space or need to house groups, families and large luggage. We are so sorry if this information was not presented clearly to you at the booking stage and will strive to improve this before next season. Many thanks for your feedback.

“Tremendous Value”

My wife and I have stayed at Les Citronniers twice, both times for several weeks. The manager spoke excellent English, the most junior desk clerk none, and, the other desk clerk somewhere in between.

It was almost almost perfect in the ways that matter to us.
- A 40% discount for a lengthy (8 weeks or more) stay.
- A stove, refrigerator, utensils and microwave adequate for four people.
- A comfortable, cheerful apartment pleasant, for a couple to live in for months.
- An easy walk to the covered market, two supermarkets, 12! bakeries and the train station (we did not rent a car). Also, to the Medieval part of town.
- About 100 yards from the sea.
- A balcony large enough for lunch.
- A good modern building; tidy, well managed, and properly heated.

However, to get proper value you must be prepared to change your sheets, and clean your own apartment.

  • Liked — Value and convenience.
  • Disliked — We liked everything but not the place for someone looking for luxury or a swinging scene.
  • Tips/Secrets — August is very expensive. Menton always good but wonderful at Christmas & Citron Festival.

“Good location”

We are 60+ couple who flew to Nice from England and hired car. Maeva town centre location. Ask for room with balcony overlooking nearby gardens. Kitchenette basic but adequate - 2 ring cooker plus microwave - no kettle but has coffee machine. Could be a bit crowded with 4 persons. No English spoken on desk. Apartment clean with adequate linen and towels. No cleaner during week. T.V. but no English stations. Garage underneath building at daily charge. Quiet at night (iin May) Menton has railway station and superb daily food market.
