“Elegant and Welcoming”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

We stayed on a Twixtmas break from the 26th to 29th of December. From check-in to check out the hotel staff made everything easy and relaxing. They actually remember who you are and take care of any room charges without all the hassle of "Room number? Name? Sign? Tip?" you have to endure in most other hotels. The lemon drinks served as soon as we checked in were a very welcome start to a lovely break in Menton. The hotel was perfect for this stay as the Christmas illuminations and special events were in full flow in the town centre which was just 10 minutes walk or 5 minutes away on the half hourly local bus.

The hotel only serves breakfast and there is a choice of full breakfast buffet for 12 Euros or Express served at the bar for 5 Euros. Both were great it just depends how hungry you are. There is no restaurant in the hotel itself but they serve freshly made bar snacks from 12.00 to 21.00. We found this great for a light lunch or evening snack after visiting one of the very good restaurants nearby or in the town itself.

The seaview rooms were spotless, tastefully furnished and had all the facilities you need including UK, German, Italian and French channels and an alarm clock to charge your iPod. Seeing the sun rising on the Med every morning is certainly worth the extra for these rooms.

Would certainly stay again.

Room Tip: Get a sea view room as the view is super

“Beautiful location and great hotel - Wonderful holiday!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

My partner and I stayed at the Napoleon in September 2011. It was my first trip to Menton and I fell in love with the place immediately. We parked our hire car in the hotel's car park and as we entered the hotel we were greeted by a very friendly receptionist. While we were checking in, the barman presented us with a complimentary drink, which was very welcome -especially after our rather hectic drive from Nice airport. (Next time we will use the train instead, as there is a station only a few minutes walk from the hotel). We had booked a Sea View queen bedded-room, but on arrival, found two singles. The hotel offered to change the beds to a double, but we decided we didn't want the bother - and as the weather was still so hot, two singles turned out to be the best choice! Our room was excellent and had a balcony with a wonderful sea view.
We did not have breakfast in the hotel, so cannot comment on that, but we used Room Service one evening and the Barman definitely got to know us quite well during our stay, even bringing us extra peanuts to go with out drinks!
September was a great time to visit Menton - the weather was still hot (30 degrees at 5 p.m.) and it was not too busy, even on the day we visited Monte Carlo. We used the train for this trip to avoid the worry of parking. It also meant my partner could relax and admire the wonderful scenery without having to negotiate the winding cliff-edge roads!
My only grumble with the hotel is that we were led to believe there was a "private" beach belonging to the hotel. Although there is still a restaurant with the same name, it does not now belong to the hotel. This was rather misleading - but it did not spoil our enjoyment in any way.
There is a wide choice of restaurants in Menton, all within walking distance from the hotel. Our favourite was called Vesuvio (I think) where we sat outside in a square and were served by very friendly waiters. On our second and third visits during the week, we were given complimentary after-dinner drinks. Excellent food and ambience, especially the street musicians who added to the wonderful atmosphere!
We had a fabulous holiday and cannot wait to return - maybe in May or June next year.

“Great Hotel, Great Price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Napoleon on Tuesday night, November 8, 2011. We walked in about five in the afternoon and asked for a room for one night. We were greeted immediately by a very friendly receptionist. While we were registering the barman greeted us with a welcome drink. Our room was spotlessly clean. The room is attractive and has been recently updated throughout. We had opted for a garden view room rather than a sea view room which were more expensive. Since we are currently living in Menton and have a sea view we didn't care about the view. The view we had was lovely, looking up the mountain. The next morning we had the Express breakfast for 5 Euros. It consisted of a choice of fresh juices, we had orange, a basket for each of us consisting of three pastries, and hot chocolate or a coffee drink. It was well worth the 5 Euros and was very filling and tasty. A buffet breakfast is also available. We had our dog with us and she was welcome. This place is a find!

“Good location, friendly hotel”

We turned up about 6pm without a reservation and managed to get a room. There is limited ( and gated) parking to the side of the hotel for about 8 cars. Room was clean and comfortable, and staff friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was good, but expensive.
A good choice for a night or weekend stop, about a 10 minute walk to the old town.

“Really disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2011

We were disappointed with this hotel. The room was small - only just wider than the bed. We were at the rear of the hotel, where unless you are on the top floor, the view is of a huge wooden fence. The room was furnished in an old fashioned way and resembled a room in a business hotel, rather than for vacations. The room had a small bathroom with a bath. On the positive side, the room was clean and quiet. There was a flat screen TV with some English channels. There was a kettle for making coffee and tea.The view from the front of the hotel is simply of the sea, which is nice, but no different from many other hotels on the Cote d'Azur. The reception and bar area is fairly pleasant. There is a small outdoor swimming pool, but it is next to the busy road at the front of the hotel. The parking area is completely inadequate - way too small. It has a barrier with a bell. When we arrived we rang the bell, but they didn't open the barrier for us, so I had to drive off looking for a parking space. It is possible to walk into the old part of Menton in about ten minutes. There is not much to see in old Menton. The best things about Menton are the good weather and the walks in the mountains above the town. We considered the hotel to be over priced. We will not be going back to this hotel.
