“could have been a lot better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2011

Booked a couple of weeks before i was supposed to go together with my wife and 2 daughters (age 17 & 15) .. i saw from this site that they were having some building works and even though I booked via AMEX i also contacted the hotel to make sure we were on the other side of the construction with a garden view.
I should have taken note of the fact that when i rang i either got cut off or had a long wait before getting conected.
EVEN though i had everything in writing they still put us in two rooms facing the huge work site!!! had to fight for over an hour to get moved. (Staff were friendly .. but obviously the management not managing properly)

location = very nice and good walking distance to the beach (15 mins) and town centre (5 mins) and on the way to Antibes (25 mins walk)

Bar and food = expensive PLUS they actually charge you more than what the menus tell you .. even though we bought this to their attention the menu prices were not updated.

pool = on the small size but friendly and efficient staff who come round and take your order (although the pool was out of action for one of our 5 days due to an "incident") .. and one day the pool light was floating out of its fitting.. looked very dodgy!

fitness centre = they advertise having one but its VERY basic and old .. right close ot the indoor small pool and meant that the floors wet

When we left and checked out they did give us a discount on our food because of the overcharging and also another discount because of all the hassle over getting the right rooms.
I did ask them to book a taxi to take us to Nice Airport (about 30 mins drive) and when it came it was a small mercedes so we have to jam all our cases and have bags on our laps ... kind of sums the trip up .. could have done a lot better...

“Would not recommend”

Looking forward to this marriot hotel only to find it is not new and just has a new owner. The place looks tired and worn , the staff are rude and the cleaners took things from our minibar which were personal. The only plus was great location and pool, rooms were tiny though

“Ok hotel for business.”

Stayed at the Ambassadeur Hotel for two nights during a business trip.
The first impression when I arrived the hotel is that the reception area looks old and worn down, and could need some refurbishing. The staff at check-in was friendly, however there were problems with my keycard to the room, and I had to stop by the reception several times during my stay to get my card fixed.
The room itself looked newly refurbished, and clean. The bathroom was also clean, and small. My room had a balcony out towards a construction site which was noisy in the morning. Internet is not free at this hotel, and you have to pay 20 euro for a three day card.
The hotel also has a swimming pool and a private beach, but be aware that you have to pay to use both, and for the beach you have to reserve in advance. I did not try the breakfast or any of the restaurants at the hotel.

Room Tip: As long as there is a large construction site outside the hotel, ask to get a room AWAY from this si...

“Good, if you are willing to pay all the extras”

So this year we decided to check out Antibes (Juan-les-pins) and booked 5 nights at the Hotel Ambassador. In general, we can say that it’s a very nice and modern hotel with a very friendly staff. But the critic in me found a few things that could have been better. First of all, the bathroom was very pretty but could’ve been a little bit bigger. We didn’t have a bath, only a shower. Not one of those with a ‘door’ but one you can just walk into and is protected on the side with a glass wall. Unfortunately, on the first night, I turned our bathroom into an indoor swimming pool! I don’t know if that was just me doing something wrong or the shower being awkward. After my shower-adventure, I was very happy to see/feel that the mattress was incredible! I loved the bed immediately. On day 2 I wanted to spend some time on our balcony but I found those chairs very annoying. They were in black, so they only need a bit of sun to become VERY hot and they weren’t comfortable at all. It took me a few days to find a good position to sit down painless. Oh, I haven’t mentioned breakfast yet… well, it was great! It had everything I wanted so no complains here. About the facilities: we were kind of lucky that we chose to go on a holiday in June. Because we didn’t have to pay access to the swimming pool yet. In July and August you pay 15 EUR for a whole day at the pool and 10 EUR for half a day. There’s also a barkeeper walking around so you can eat or drink something anytime. Towels are also available. If you don’t like pools or don’t want to spend so much money on a day at the pool, I’m afraid you’ll have to pay even more to spend some time at the beach!!!! The entire coastline of Juan-les-pins is dominated by private beaches of several hotels. So if you want to go to the hotel’s private beach, you’ll pay 16 EUR first class and 18 EUR second class. That doesn’t include food or drinks and you can’t bring your own stuff. So yes, you can say that this hotel is fairly expensive! Something else I didn’t really like (but that’s not the hotel’s fault): I didn’t like the neighbourhood. Antibes is very beautiful but Juan-les-pins is a completely different area. It isn’t very cosy, I think that’s the best word to describe it. But beside the shower, the chairs on our balcony and the expensiveness of the pool and beach, I have nothing bad to say about this hotel.

“Great location, Decent Rooms and Amenities but Flawed Service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2011

My husband i stayed at this supposedly 4 star hotel, and while the physical environment, lobby, room, pool etc was very pleasant, service overall was poor. There was no dedicated concierge, so all staff doubled as both check in and providing concierge services, but there was great variability in their knowledge level and ability to assist. We had hoped to take a cruise to the Island of Margeurite and asked for boat shuttle schedule and was told that it ran every 45 minutes. We got there only to find that the last shuttle out was at 11:30 am until late in the evening. They also did not present sightseeing package options, and provided limited information on local restaurants. At first i thought, maybe this was the French way, but we visited the lobby of another hotel and found the staff to be much more knowledge and provided a full array of services. We also asked for a taxi to the airport, but instead they provided a car service (we think it was a hotel employee or friend) who took us to the airport but tried to charge us 20 more euro than the taxi did who brought us to the hotel when we first arrived. They also had a spa outfitted, with no staff to support it. I heard that Marriott is taking over the property. I hope this is the case, so that staffing will increase, they will be properly trained and provide an overall higher level of service.
