“Very nice; Air Conditioning poor”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2011

We stayed at the Mercure Thalassa in Port Frejus the second week in September. It is in the large Accor chain. Pros: Nice Pool, beach access, many cafes, bars, restaurants within a 10 minute walk, comfy balcony with table and chairs, modern rooms. The staff was outstanding. We had some problems with a nearby establishment and they came out and gave us a helping hand - way beyond their call of duty! The only con: The Riviera is still quite warm in September and the air conditioning was just a trickle (in the lobby too). It did cool of sufficiently at night with patio doors open. That's a deal breaker for us. For that reason, I would not return to the Mercure Thalassa again during the hot season. We did not try the in-house bar and restaurant.

“Not much bang for the buck”

Positives: Location. Negatives: The restaurant was expensive for the (low) quality of food and limited selection. It also was impossible to get "just coffee" in the morning without paying 15 euros for full breakfast buffet, and even when I asked about it, I was told 'that's the way it is.' Parking costs 15 euros per day, and the spots are impossibly small. On top of that, we were there for 3 nights, and TWICE, our numbered/assigned spot was given to someone else, and when we complained, they had US move OUR car to another spot. This doesn't sound like a big deal, but considering half the spots were too small for our car, this involved lots of running up and down stairs, and just reflected poorly on hotel mgmt in my humble opinion. The bathroom and room layout was strange, and we paid extra for a "sea view" when in reality, we had a view of a palm tree that obscured our entire view, unless you moved all the way to the edge of the balcony and craned your neck around, then you could see kind of around the tree to a sliver of beach.

I won't stay at this particular hotel again. It wasn't expensive, but it WAS too expensive to have this many problems.

“Very disappointing Experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2011

Location is great, beside the Port and Sea. Parking a disaster. On arrival we ventured into it and there was no space big enough for our VW Tiguan. Luckily we found free parking in the streets nearby for all our stay. Room a good size but no wardrobe space for 2 people for 5 days!! Shower great but it produced a nasty smell every evening. Handwash basin much too small. Dust and dirt behind the bathroom door remained there all during our stay. As did the dirty sticky stains on floor of the balcony.
Breakfast choice was good but 30 minutes before closing time nothing was replaced. I like to relax at breakfast but this was impossible with overworked and unfriendly staff trying to get ready for lunchtime customers.
Pool area is small and no parasols - nowhere nearby to have a drink and only 3 tables available at the hotel bar.
To make matters worse no lift was working for a whole morning.
Overall a disappointing experience.
