“Brilliant hotel - charming people”

My husband and I stayed in this hotel, arriving on 8th inst., for 2 nights. It is a beautiful hotel in a beautiful situation with very charming people working there. We very much enjoyed our food. They were extremely kind to my husband who is asthmatic by providing a humidifier in the room which he used and a portable air conditioning unit and showed concern as to whether or not he was comfortable which
he was - lovely people, lovely experience and we would definitely return - the accommodation is excellent. Max and Lesley Draffen

“A curate's egg”

The hotel is well positioned for visiting the coast from Nice to Monte Carlo. The grounds and pool area are quite breathtaking with a superb sea water infinity pool. The beach, which a previous reviewer was disappointed was not open, is nothing to get excited about. It is a few metres long and consists of sharp pebbles. However those with tough feet can sunbathe, swim and snorkel.
The management and staff were unfailingly helpful and went to a great deal of trouble to accomodate certain problems which were of our own making.
However beware! The superior rooms (currently 500 euros per night) are absolutely tiny. They have a very small sitting area. and have a mezzanine bedroom. This sounds quite attractive until you have to climb the steep steps to reach it and you find that your television is up there. It means that the only place to watch tv is lying on the bed.
The next category of rooms (currently 700 euros) was better but far from spacious.
I suspect that the suites, although expensive, represent better value.
The restaurant seems to be a bit of a disaster. We did not eat there. This seemed to fit with the general trend and the place was more or less deserted during our week there. Since we didn't sample the food I can't pass comment but the lighting was uninviting, ranging from stygian gloom outside to prison searchlight intensity inside. The general atmosphere in the evening was pretty dead, presumably because most guests went out or ate in their suites.
The pool bar area was very pleasant for lunch but the food was pretty ordinary and overpriced.

  • Liked — pool area and garden
  • Disliked — very cramped rooms and poor restuarant atmosphere

“magical”

A bit confused about other views if this was the same hotel.
My husband took me for 4 days to this magical hotel. We did have problems finding it as it was so hidden away, but then when we got there it was breathtaking. The amazing security, and then being greeted by the hotel manager knowing our names as we stepped out of our car, really made us feel very welcome. We stayed in one of the seperate suites away from the main hotel building over the sea, which was wonderful , basically a studio suite with a surprise kitchenette and all facilites needed. The room had everything we needed and was very modern as well as having two balconies right over the water.
The problem we had was not wanting to leave the hotel. The indoor and outdoor pools were luxurious and staff were always on hand to help or even take pictures.

During our stay the staff were wonderful and the food in the hotel room service and the restaurant was wonderful, you can in advance even ask for a special dish to be cooked.

The only issue we had was dogs are allowed and in our suite we could hear the
dog barking next door, so this is something i would check in advance. We did visit Chateaux Eze as we were originally going there till we spoke to Native French from the area, and were very happy we did not stay at that hotel, that seemed rather suffocating and allowed anyone to just walk in unlike our very private hotel, where every staff member knew every guests name.

If you want a romantic stay, where the most important thing is to relax be treated like a movie star, then this is the place to go and we will definately be going back.

“Beautiful view; Disappointing service and value; Poor food quality”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 May 2006

During a two week tour of Florence and the French Riveria, we spent two nights at the Cap Estel in Eze. While the hotel is beautiful and the view spectacular, the professionalism of the staff, quality of the food and overall value for the money is severely lacking in comparison to the other hotels and restaurants we experienced.
Our only meal in the restaurant was tasteless and included a drink which was both undistinguishable and undrinkable. The steak was under cooked, the vegetables over cooked, and the service a joke. When the bill arrived, it included an extra 90 euros due to an addition error by the waiter! The poor quality of the restaurant is a problem, since there is nothing else within walking distance of this isolated hotel.
The value of the room and overall experience for the money was extremely hampered by an advertised beach which was not open and construction thoughout the day which made relaxing impossible.
In the end, we spent as little time as possible at the hotel and chose to visit other places in the vicinity. While venturing out, we dined at the Chateau Eze restaurant and had an excellent experience. The food, service and view were outstanding.
My next trip to this area will include a stay at the Chauteau Eze instead of the Cap Estel. Beware, the Cap Estel is not all it is advertised to be. It has a long way to go before it will compare with the competition and be a true five star experience.

If you have not been to Cap Estel, you have not experienced the magic and majesty of the Cote d'Azur. We frequented Cap Estel in the early and mid-'90s and agreed with our friends that it was time for a rennovation- but what a magnificent transformation on our last visit in June '05! Where there once were 40 rooms and suites, now there are but 11. The former staff quarter a short walk up the hillside gardens have also been transformed into more luxurious rooms and suites. The reception and staff are fabulous- warm welcome and complete attentiveness to every request. The best feature, the pools and spa, are better than ever. Cap Estel is a palace that sparkles on its own peninsula "avec les pieds dans l'eau."
