Stayed 1 night at the Villa Tosca in one of the standard rooms on the first floor.
The hotel was refurbished about 3 years ago and looks quite stylish from the outside. Very good central location on semi pedestrianised street.
The entrance hall/reception tiny and there is a very small lift, but there is a nice breakfast/bar area on the first floor.
Our room was disappointing- small and dark and up a flight of stairs from the breakfast room on a sort of mezzanine level. It was superficially trying to be stylish, but furnished poorly and starting to show signs of wear. It was fairly clean though. The bathroom was tiny but functional. Creaky floors, so some noise from above. Street noise was minimal with the windows shut and shutters down. The air conditioning was working but didn't seem to respond to the controller.
Our "double bed "- 2 singles pushed together with single sheets was very hard and uncomfortable.
Overall impression was that the room felt cheap
We had breakfast included in our package and thought it was pretty good :selection of hot drinks, freshly squeezed orange juice, pastries, breads, jams, cold meats, boiled eggs, fruit, yoghurts etc. but not sure what they charge for it- wouldn't pay more than 10 euros though.
There are lots of cafes round the hotel offering breakfast with coffee, croissant, bread ,jams and orange juice for around 5 euros.
We chose the Villa Tosca for purely financial reasons-a deal through GTA hotels website for £50 including breakfast.
The hotel's standard room charge is 99 euros without breakfast. For what we paid ( equivalent of ~75 euros in high season), we thought the price was fine, but wouldn't have wanted to stay too long in our particular room.
Understand there are some superior rooms which are more expensive-,they may be better for longer stays, but for the rates charged there are better hotels to be had.
Overall our impression was that this hotel is basically a two star that was smartened up a little while ago and gained another star in the process, however it still has a hostel type feel in places.
We've stayed at several other 3 star hotels in Cannes, the Canberra, de Provence, Quality Riviera, Beausejour , to name a few ,all of which are significantly nicer than the Villa Tosca. Would recommend any of these in preference if the price is right.
Other hotels in Cannes offer deals most of the time- check out the cost comparison websites .Believe there is better value to be had in Cannes than here.
