“Love it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

I just adore this hotel. It's a true boutique hotel with the most personable staff. The bathroom was huge (compared to my friends who stayed in a luxury hotel on the beach) and I just loved the tufted backgroud by my head board. Very nicely done! Who does not love free WIFI. You can walk to the Palais des Festivals in less than 10 min.

“Amazing hotel and staff dedicated to making it an oustanding experience.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 December 2011

Stayed at this hotel at the recommendation of some friends from Lyon (Dr. Marc and beautiful wife Catherine !!). We actually visited the hotel with our friends for about 3 days leading up to Christmas. We were greeted by very friendly staff, an emaculate and spacious room, a bottle of champagne and pastries. Can't say enough about how impressed we were. We've traveled quite a bit and manage to be comfortable with many different levels of quality. This is without reservation outstanding by any standard. Our first trip to Cannes and this hotel was a major highlight. Very close to the beach, entertainment, restaurants, culture, etc.

“V. cute hotel, less than 10 minutes walk to La Croisette / beach”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2011

Hotel Renoir's front entrance is located on a quiet street next to the police station and we felt very safe, not a dodgy street as pointed out by some earlier review. There are quite a lot of steps up to the hotel, ask the taxi driver or concierge to help with your bags. The walk to the La Croisette is less than 10 mins walk, shops 3 minutes and there is a Carrefour nearby if you need snacks / water for the beach etc. The sea views are great albeit the back looks on to a very busy highway. The noise can be an issue. Our original room 301 was beautiful and v big, very spacious bathroom which is unusual for most European hotels - their rooms tend to be very small. There was a problem with the noise as the double glazed door was not closing properly. We did ask the male concierge who is based there in the morning until 2pm to look into this but he turned a blind eye to all of our simple requests which was frustrating to say the least - be warned just don't ask him to do anything because it will not get done, i.e. restaurant reservations etc. I think he is on a different planet. The rest of the staff were helpful and one lady I believe called Miriam looked into this immediately and we got upgraded to room 405, less noise and a really lovely room. The decor is good but not excellent for four star, small attention to detail, i.e. tiling, carpets, furniture. There are 4 floors in total. There is a lift / elevator and it is very small (fits 3 people). There are 26 rooms in total, I would not call this a four star hotel as the service was haphazard to say the least, simple requests were not delivered. i.e. breakfasts delivered late, wrong items brought up etc. One of the cleaning ladies left their cleaning products on top of our toiletries and when we explained that to the woman concierge in the afternoon she just laughed it off. Towels and bath robes were not of top quality, there was a large orange stain on one of the bath robes /shortage of towels -we had to wait for them to delivered. We asked for drinks in the lobby area / bar, the lady who tried to make drinks for us made us late for our taxi and we incurred a waiting charge. Re the C beach - they have a partnership with them and Plage 45 next to C beach is MUCH better in terms of beds / service. When we asked the male Concierge to make a booking at Plage 45 he said that all the beds were taken which was not true. Re restaurants - go to Le Mantel, 22 Rue Saint Antoine (Old town) - the food is AMAZING, this was NOT recommended by Concierge. Ask them to make a reservation for you. Go to Baoli for dancing / drinks and you can eat there, they don't take reservations. Concierge's choice in restaurants is not v. good and I would advise you to do your own research. If you don't want to pay extortionate prices, then this hotel is good if you book on Lastminute.com etc. Don't expect an amazing service, it is a v pretty hotel, yes they are friendly but not 4 star. I would give this 4 ratings but the service is a let down. No gym at the hotel, they do massage treatments etc - there is no spa, they bring someone in to do this.

“Nice hotel in a so-so location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2011

I stayed here on a family vacation in June of 2008. It is a nice hotel overall. It's not far from the train station, which is good and was convenient for us. Overall it was a fine stay.

The room was the best part -- it was a large one bedroom suite. In the living room there was a fold-out sofa that was remarkably comfortable. The spacious room was complemented by a large and luxurious bathroom. The walls are great throughout (the hallways, too) - these squishy, soft walls found nowhere else I've been. The hallways were nice too - motion-sensing lights to save electricity. However, our room faced the back. This was positive because we had a tiny, far-away view of the Mediterranean, but negatively offsetting this was the noise from the highway directly below us.

The service was good - friendly staff, and good service at breakfast. The breakfast was also delicious. It was not included, but we didn't mind paying for unlimited fresh croissants and rolls we slathered in butter and nutella. It filled us up for a day exploring Cannes and the beaches.

The location was okay. The front of the hotel is on a quiet street and the hotel looks picturesque from here, but the back faces a very busy thoroughfare/highway. One must cross it to walk down the hill a bit to La Croissette and the beaches and shops of Cannes. It's about a 15 minute walk (which is very hot in the summer). However, we weren't paying the rates of the Martinez or Carlton, so we couldn't expect a beachfront location.

Overall, it was a nice hotel and a comfortable stay, with the location being the one drawback.

“Not 4 star!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2011

My sister and i stayed at the renoir last month and i can positively say this is not a 4 star hotel by all means.
Pros:
1. Location: the hotel is situated about 15min walk from the shopping streets and about 20min from plais de festival and the le croiset. However, it is not situated in the best of neighberhoods as it is after the highway and behind a police station.
2. Staff: the staff were helpful and friendly however they dont seem to be very good with getting reservations in top restaurants or clubs, when your in a place where everything needs a reservation thats very important.
3. Rooms: on the hotels website it claims to have the largest rooms around. That is not true i booked a junior sweet and it was more of a delux double room. Having said that the condition of the room was acceptable

cons:

1. Noisy: in dome reviews they mention its by a quiet street well its not the neighbours were very loud and you can hear the trains running underneath.
2. On the hotel site it says it has a private beach (one if the main reasons i chose it) its not true the hotel is not on the beach, it does not own a beach it has an agreement with C-Beach which is one of the many beaches in the le croiset. The hotel simply gives you a voucher so you can get priority and a discount and actually plage 45 is much better than C-Beach.
3. No facilities: i do not know how the hotel got the 4 star rating as it has no facilities, no spa (massages are in ur room), no pool, no gym, no business center, breakfast area is infront of the reception.

Overall i would say that this hotel is more of a 3 star hotel rather than a 4 star. I was very disappointed with the rating it got from trip advisor and felt cheated by the goid reviews. The hotel us just good enough to sleep in if you intend to be out all day. The guests seemed like decent and were not dodgy at all. But i would not go back to it.
