During our 2 week tour of France we had decided to spend 4 days in the French Riviera and had to choose between Cannes / Nice. We are glad that we chose Cannes and Hotel Sun Riviera. Cannes is just cute, far less commercialized / populated in comparison to Nice.
After landing at Paris CDG we traveled straight to Cannes by TGV on our France Rail Pass. We reached Cannes at about 11 pm and took a cab to the hotel (about 15 Euros), next day we realized how close we were to the railway station.
Hotel Location – Close to the station, about 5-7 minutes walking distance. The hotel is situated on a beautiful shopping street Rue De Antibes. Its 5 minutes walking to the Promenade (Must Do - Late night walk / window shopping on The Promenade).
Rooms – The room and the bathroom are quite compact as expected in France, but absolutely neat and clean. In any case you are only going to sleep and the beds are comfortable. The street side rooms with a mini balcony offer an amazing view of THE BEAUTIFUL Rue De Antibes.
Breakfast Buffet – Since it’s a small (boutique) hotel be prepared for a not so lavish breakfast, just enough to start your day.
Travel - Surprisingly, travelling along the French Riviera is very cheap by bus, every time you board the bus you have to pay 1 Euro irrespective of the distance you travel (Cannes to Nice – about 2 hours); a day pass for 4 Euros. From Cannes we did day trips to St Paul de Vence, Eze, Nice and Monte Carlo.
Tip – On the day you plan to visit Nice, buy a 24 hour French Riviera Pass (you can buy at Cannes itself). At Nice, we visited the beach on Promenade des Anglais and a few places nearby and after lunch we activated our 24 hour pass which included HopOn HopOff, a 50 minute guided tour on a little tourist train from Promenade des Anglais (must do) and entry to various tourist spots. The next day we started early and used the same pass to visit the Oceanographic Museum and the famous gardens at Monte Carlo.
The entire hotel staff is very warm and welcoming and we will surely stay here whenever we return to Cannes.
