“Great choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

I am a travel agent in Portugal and was attending a trade show in Cannes, the price was very good and the hotel was a great surprise.
Location: rigth outside the train stop, some construction going on at the moment but no noise in the hotel. 2 minutes walking from Rue des Antibes (central portion of it) and 5 minutes walking to Palais des Festivals so very convenient.
Room: was on the 5th floor. Small but with everything you need, very comfortable bed, working desk (very small one), free Wi Fi that works very well. Very well kept;
Bathroom: small but fully equiped with bathtub and very well maintained also. Not many amenities;
Breakfast: very complete and savoury, they try to make one or two special things each day which also helps keeping it very good;
Service: really nice people everywhere, from front desk to breakfast. 5* here!
General: great affordable option, keep up the good work!

“Do you like Trains?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

The previous reviews are on the mark. The beautiful beaches and tourist areas of Cannes are just a short jaunt away... after you figure out how to cross the train station. Seriously... it's right out the front entrance, and divides you and the good times of Cannes. Romantic? No. Rooftop pool? Check! Gorgeous!! (if it's Summer... it's not heated). Be aware, the hotel does not allow food or drink that has been acquired outside of the premises... they advertise that the bar is open 24hrs... and the hotel vending machine is sufficient. We found two hershey Crunchy bars; Oreo Cookies; and Soda. Nothing under 3 euros. Parking is excellent, on premises... charge of 15 euro per night... internet is free, wireless is not available on bottom floors, so probably not elsewhere either. You can plug in though. The bed... well, seriously, the best bed I've found between Canada and Europe. Would I stay again...? Simply put... nope. I think for the money I've spent, I could put that towards a nicer spot closer to the beach, or at least on the other side of this danged train station. I do believe that this hotel is doing the best that it can for it's overall poor location... if it was in a better locale I would of course agree with a four star rating. I've been all over the world, in all sorts of hotels... I would rate this hotel as a three... because of the location. Make sure that the price you are paying reflects this.

Room Tip: Location! Try the back side of the hotel away from the trains...

Dear Sir,

We value your opinion and would like to thank you for rating our hotel.

We can see you have been mainly disappointed by our location and the access to the other side of the train station.

The city of Cannes is now renovating this area and the works should be finished by the end of 2012.

The hotels in Europe receive stars not according to their location but according to the services provided in the hotel. Thank you for your information regarding the wireless on the ground floor, our technician checked and it works well in all floors but apparently not in the reception area.

We will check what can be the problem.

We would like to thank you for the time spent rating our hotel and look forward to seeing you back in Cannes on another occasion.

Best regards,

Pierre / Front desk

“Definitely not a good experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011

Rooms: I got placed in a room which smelled like stale cigarette smoke. When I called to complain, they said there were no other rooms available. Then I got woken up in the morning by some works that were going on in the floor above. As for the location, I got to the hotel at 23:00 and it was a very unpleasant walk there from the bus station. There were homeless people sleeping outside, and it smelled of urine. It is situated right at the back of the train station where the only access to the city centre is though a very dodgy under-passage. The next evening, at 18:30, I got shouted at by really menacing looking men who were clearly drunk. I promptly packed my suitcase, called a cab and checked into an other hotel.

“Faulty Towers Breakfast”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

My friend and I stayed there a few days before the start of Cannes Film Festival in May 2011.

The hotel is for what you pay an ok place. Our room was tiny but really clean and well maintained. Location good for walking into town for the beach. Near to the bus station, good for getting about locally. Yes the train station was a place for local tramps to live but that was the only negative about the location.

Breakfast was an absolute farce every day. Not enough food or cutlery or anything really. The hotel seem to not have enough staff for this busy period. But lets face it, breakfast is something that will be taken by guests every day so it shouldn't come as a surprise when we all turn up for breakfast at 8-9 am wanting to be fed and watered!! By day 5 my friend and I just laughed it off but it was kind of annoying to be asking the same thing 5 days on the run. One day I emptied out the sugar packets out of the bowl and put cereal into it as there were no other bowls despite me asking for one. No one batted an eyelid!! I even buttered my bread with a spoon handle and again no one said a thing!

The bar was never manned so if you wanted a drink the reception staff had to come off reception and assist you, which wasnt great if reception was busy.

We didnt pay for a fancy hotel so I guess on the whole we werent too disappointed. We came to see Cannes and visit St Tropez, Monte Carlo and Antibes. So we werent in the hotel for long periods of time. Yes, I would stay there again for a short break but maybe take my own breakfast gear!

Dear Sir,

Thank you very much for your time and feedback.

We took good note of your commentaries and are pleased to inform you that renovation works have started in the hotel area to improve access to the hotel and train station and modernise the whole Boulevard d'Alsace in front of the hotel.

Our breakfast buffet has been improved and arranged better to faciltate the "self service". The person in charge of the breakfast always took to heart to serve all guests by herself, which was sometimes difficult. We would like to apologise for the lack of service mentioned on your commentary.

The reception team is usually able to serve at the bar when needed. The demand is not high enough for us to take the decision to have someone 24 hours taking care of it.

Once more, we would like to thank you for sharing your impressions and look forward to maybe accomodating you here again on another occasion.

Best regards from Cannes,

Pierre / Front desk

“What we expected”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2011

My wife and I were on a short business trip in September and hade made a 3 night booking some weeks prior with Golden Tulip Hotel de Paris. When we arrived to book in were amazed to be told that they didn't have a room as the hotel was fully booked. However, we were told they had booked us into their 'sister' establishment, Cannes Riviera Hotel 5 minutes walk away. When we arrived there we found this was a Best Western Hotel and when we queried how it was possible for these two establishments to be connected we found the link was actually brothers one of whom owned The Riviera and the other managing The Hotel de Paris.

The receptionist said he couldn't find a booking in our name but eventually found it amongst a stack of papers. We asked if our booking included breakfast and he confirmed it did. The room was OK but the hotel in general had few facilities and was not somewhere we would have chosen for a three night stay.In fact we had seen it during our hotel research and rejected it. The truth is it's really suited for coach parties probably staying just overnight. Yet this hotel has a 4 star rating! The Hotel information book has almost nothing to say about it's facilities but devotes the greater part to its extensive alcohol list. However, the hotel bar has nothing to commend it and we never saw anybody using it. Probably members of a coach party might as they are not going to be staying there another night. The breakfast was dire, and just the same boring fare every day and not of great quality Just to add insult to injury when we checked out the receptionist said the information about breakfast being included was wrong and we were clocked a futher 90eu on our bill.

We have made our complaints clear to the agent through whom we made the booking and they were helpful and sympathetic. In fact they tried to get the breakfast charge refunded but neither hotel was prepared to oblige. So the agent picked up the tab as a gesture of good will which they were under no obligation to do.

Will we use this hotel again? No and wouldn't have done so in the first place. Our initial judgement ws correct and we certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone else.

Dear Sir, Madam

Thank you very much for completing the survey regarding your stay in Cannes.

On behalf of our entire team, I would like to apologise for not reaching your expectations. Your satisfaction is important to us and we will be using your feedback to implement improvements and ensure a better service in the future.
