We've just returned from a five-day stay at the Amarante. I've stayed there before several times on business - and it's an adequte but unexciting business hotel. But I returned this time with my family because we found a very good deal on the web.
The first point to make is that this is not what one would expect from a four-star hotel. It's probably two or three star by most peoples' standards. However in Europe the ratings reflect facilities not quality. So because the Amarante has a swimming pool, bar and restaurant it gets four stars.
The rooms are small but were adequate for two adults plus a child on a folding bed. The bathroom is cramped but the separate toilet is unfeasible small. Although our room faced the main road the soundproofing was fine and we were not aware of the traffic.
Like another reviewer, we were asked not to use the car park because our hire car as too big, so we were offered a space on the forecourt in front of the hotel which was fine.
I agree the breakfast is massively overpriced but there are plenty of cafes or groceries nearby that provide a more economical option.
Overall we were happy that we got value for money. But if I'd been paying full rate I might have thought differently

arriving at the hotel looked promising. thats were it ended. rooms were small and dingey, the pool was tiny. how does a hotel like this get four stars ... we were so disapointed we left the same day and come home.

We stayed in the Amarante Hotel in Cannes for 10 days last July. On the day we checked out, the receptionist arranged for our bags to be stored by a porter in a separate room in the hotel lobby as our flight was not until the evening. When we returned, we were told by the same receptionist that she had seen another couple walk out with our luggage later in the day and had assumed they were our friends so did not challenge them. All our luggage was taken - two suitcases and a separate bag which contained clothes for our return travel. The hotel immediately admitted liability but we have yet to receive any compensation, depsite being in correspondence for almost a year now.
I feel the need to warn other travellers who may stay in this hotel to take extra precautions if leaving their luggage unattended.
Overall, the hotel was very disappointing and I did not feel merited its four star status. The rooms are very small - and we were staying in a superior room. The pool is the smallest I have seen in a hotel and is directly overlooked by surrounding appartments. The poolside area - if you can call it that - doubles as an eating area and there is virtually no area for sunbathing, unless you fancy being packed like a sardine in a side alley.
The hotel faces one of the main roads out of Cannes and is about a 25 minutes walk to the port. It is helpful to take a bus on the return trip as this is all uphill. The breakfast buffet looked nice but was expensive for what it was.

Mu husband and I just returned from our vacation in Cannes. We stayed at the Amarante hotel for 6 nights. We were lucky to find a special promotional rate that was unusually low for a 4-star hotel in Cannes. The staff was extremely friendly and courteous and the rooms were clean (albeit extremely small). The premises were well kept.

Just a few warnings: (1) The biggest bed size they have is a double. (2) The parking is extremely tight. Understanding that parking anywhere in Cannes is tight, parking at the Amarante was very stressful. We had rented a BMW 325 and it took us about 10 minutes each day to get in and out of the parking lot (i.e. 15-point turns!). (3) The breakfast is 15 Euros p/person and is simply continental. We found it much better to walk to a patisserie 2 blocks away and buy the same breakfast for only 3 Euros p/person.

All in all, the low rates make this hotel a great choice. Just keep the parking lot in mind when you rent your car. The smaller, the better!
