“Great location and good value for Cap D'Antibes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2010

This hotel used to be called the Don Cesar. It was bought a little while ago and the new owner changed its name. Great location in Cap D'Antibes at a fraction of the price of other Cap D'Antibes hotels. Needlessly to say it is still not cheap compared with other French destinations. The hotel has a good pool area, a private beach although no sand, a small public indoor seating area/bar and a very nice outdoor and indoor eating area.

The main weakness of the hotel is the size of its rooms. For a four star hotel these are small but made up by the fact that (with the room that we had) there was our own outdoor seating area. There is also free, but limited, parking outside the hotel. We were able to find space each time but I suspect that in full season this might be harder.

Staff were very helpful, especially the Manageress. She was able to recommend us to a top Antibes restaurant. I have seen criticism elsewhere at the cost of the breakfats. At 19 Euros per person this is correct for what is a reasonable breakfast buffet in a four star hotel.

Overall we enjouyed our stay in Cap D'Antibes, but this part of France is generally more frenetic than other parts of France which offer much better value for money.

“New name: Vogue Hotel - but still 3 Stars at best”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 May 2010
3
people found this review helpful

The venue is no longer called "Don Cesar" - new name is "Vogue Hotel".
While it boasts an official 4 star rating, it is 3 stars at best:

The good:
+ Very welcoming and friendly staff
+ Good lunch menu in the hotel (never stayed for dinner, Antibes has many great places to offer)
+ Nice pool area
+ "Garden view" rooms have private patios with partial sea view

the bad:
- there's no ventilation in the bathrooms, the entire room turns into a steambath after two people have taken a hot shower
- bathrooms need a complete makeover; fixtures on 2 star level
- the entire venue has a worn out feel to it; rusty sunshades, shaky table in the restaurant, broken toilet brush
- too expensive for what it is

“This is different”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2010

I was prompted to write a review when I read one of the negative reviews. This is a personal view, you understand. What you have here is a small hotel on the corniche, just along from the Hotel du Cap-isn't that the most exclusive hotel in The World? It is quite expensive-again, it is in Juan Les Pins..it's going to be a bit expensive. The rooms are ok. My wife and I always have a junior suite out back. It's comfortable. There is a small private patio as well. The beds are ok. It is roomy enough for the four of us. By the time you work it out per capita, it is broadly comparable with other hotels. The advantage is it is quieter. Breakfast is lovely. Dinner or lunch is expensive..so eat out! That said, we have had lunch there a few times as a treat. It is very nice. We shared lunch, because it is a bit pricey...Pool is ok-the kids use it as do we. The staff are, well, French. So they are the way they are. I find them ok. Actually, there was an Irish room cleaner/maid there last time, who was intelligent and helpful. There is a private beach which is a bit rudimentary (over the road), but there are sunloungers. No beach, just some rocks. But, again, no other people around. That appeals sometimes! So, not perfect, but for this neck of the woods, not bad!! We have been 3 or 4 times. The jazz festival round the corner is a must, keith Jarrett plays most years. Jeff Beck this year. Also fab restaurant in Old Antibes, forgotten the name, you go down into a dip at the bottom of a hill. Anyway, I wrote this because I didn't think one review in particular was balanced. Hope this helps.

“Spectacular View from newly remodeled Cap d'Antibes Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2009

One of the best travel deals is when there is some new quality Hotel on the market that is too small or too new for heavy demand, such is the case with Hotel Vogue.
The view ranks in the top 20 in the world,an unobstructed view of yachts in La Garoupe/Cap d'Antibes harbor.
The staff could not be nicer, although overworked.Parking is free, there is a large garage.
There is a free shuttle.
Locals still call it the Don Cesar, and the only downside is that the people who bought it did not spend quite enough to really modernize it,which affects the air conditioning and the wi-fi.A contrary view was expresses to be by a Russian who arrived in a Bentley. His quote"Who stays in a place like this and worries about TV or internet?"
This is a honeymoon spot to rival Tahiti.

“Lovely hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2008

I have just spent 4 days here and thought how lovely the hotel was. My room was beautiful - robes, slippers etc provided. Art on the walls, comfy bed, lovely views over the garden. Mini bar, safe etc. All thoroughly cleaned each day. Plenty of wardrobe space and large mirrors.

Bathroom was a bit bland but perfectly servicable with toiletries, hair dryer and cotton wool etc provided.

Pool was fine - bit small for serious swimming but comfy sunloungers and towels etc. Always managed to get a sunlounger whatever time of day you were by the pool.

Main gripe would be the cost of everything. We did not have breakfast in the hotel -18euros - we went out for breakfast every day. A G&T cost 16euro and sandwiches upwards of 20euros. We bought our own gin and just asked for ice, and made our own drinks (fairly surreptitiously!). We did not eat in the hotel, but preferred to go to Antibes where there is more atmosphere. Plenty of lovely bars and restaurants which are fairly reasonable for the Cote d'Azur.

There is access to the sea across the main road, but this is rocky and fairly dangerous, so we used the pool or drove down to the sandy beach in Antibes (2 kms away). You definitely need a car to stay here as it is out on its own. There is a main road in front of the hotel, but you are raised above it. We found the staff to be very helpful and charming (not always easy to find in France!) - for instance, one friend had bad toothache and they managed to ring round and find an emergency dentist for her to see immediately.

Not cheap - 175 euros for a standard room and no breakfast included, but this is probably one of the most expensive coastlines in the world, and you do get whay you pay for. We stayed in a 3 star for the rest of the week and there was no comparison.

I would definitely return (when my credit card has recovered!)

Surprised to see such awful reviews, but presume the hotel has had a makeover since the last one in 2007 was posted. Of the three rooms in our party, everyone was very happy with what they got!
