“A delightful stay!”

Am finally writing this review..We had a lovely stay in Avignon and much of it was down to our stay in Thames Residence. The apartments were nice, clean and spacious, and it was located right next to the train station. So getting there was just a short walk. Avignon is a small town so it was really easy to get around the whole town on foot from Thames. Philippe runs the residence and he was a fantastic host. He gave us really good information and guidance, and was always available to answer any queries we had. There was a train strike happening on the weekend we were there, and thanks to him, we were able to get updates on the situation and arrange for alternative transport to Nice. Would definitely stay here again on our next trip back!

“Fantastic Base in Provence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 May 2011

We stayed at the Thames Residence for a week at the end of April. Re-iterating other reviews Philippe was an excellent host, giving us a friendly welcome on arrival. We were travelling with 2 children and all was arranged (extra bed, cot) for us in our apartment.

Our apartment had a small kitchenette and 2 double beds. The apartments are small but comfortable for two adults and two small children. The kitchenette has a two ring cooker, a microwave, dishwasher and a sink. The lack of grill or oven does require you to use your imagination if cooking in.

The location is excellent, 5 minute walk into the centre of town. If arriving by car pre-book the private car park at EUR70 (currently) a week, it will save you alot of time.

The apartments are actually in the hotel [Grand Hotel] itself and therefore you can use all its facilities including the pool (opens late May onwards).

The apartments have free wifi and free international landline calls which was fantasic.

There is a launderette approximate 4 minute walk away if you require to wash any clothes. However as it is unmanned you can get alot of homeless people in it, which can make it feel unsafe at night. There is another launderette which is manned about a 15 minute walk away which is bigger and safer at night, ask Philippe or hotel staff to point it out on the map.

If you require to stock up on food there is a Carrefour mini-market half way up the main road into the centre of town. If you require more choice there is a Carrefour, Lidl hypermarket about a 10 minute drive away.

The only small negatives about the apartment is there are no floor cleaning utensils (sweeping brush etc) in the apartment, but are easily requested from Philippe. The apartments were not serviced at all during our stay (at least not ours), it would have been nice to get new bed sheets, towels automatically every few days. But again, a simple request and Philippe will supply them.

The Thames residence is a great accommodation overseen by a friendly and welcoming manager. The combination of both made for a perfect base for exploring this beautiful area of Provence, we will be back!

“Fantastic Place With Even Better Service”

You couldn't ask for a better place, and very economical, to stay in Avignon. Easy walk, less that 3 minutes, to the City Central train station (Not the TVG) and just outside the city walls. A very close walk to the center of Avignon with all of the sidewalk restaurants and the Palace of the Popes. The Tourist Bureau was less than a five minute walk and had numerous tours and suggestions of places to see. We did not rent a car and never needed one. We had a room on the second floor with a door that opened onto the balcony that ran the length of the building providing a nice place to enjoy a glass of wine talking over what we had seen that day. Although on a fairly busy street, it was not noisy at night with the balcony door closed. Philippe and Emmanuelle were there to suggest places to see and restaurants to dine. It was our first trip to Avignon and Southern France and was totally enjoyable.

“OMG What a great place!”

Excellent location when staying in Avignon and our thanks to Phillipe for assisting in making our stay a little more special. Thames Residence would have to be the No. 1 self catering location in Avignon as the apartment was just so well set out. Locality ... it was right next door to Avignon Centre train station; a short walk to the Gare Routiere which is the bus terminus to some of the surrounding towns; and only a short walk to the centre of town. Enjoyed the opportunity to "put our feet up" at the end of a hard day touristing and enjoy pre-dinner drinks on the terrace just outside our appartment, whilst overlooking the old wall. Also HIGHLY recommended Le Petit Bedon restaurant for that special dinner for 2 - make sure you book... Excellent food, staff and decor....
Will certainly be back again and YES... Thames Resisdence would be the place to stay!
