Avignon is already a very beautiful place. The hotel is just next to the popes palace, you can see the place from the window. The decoration of the restaurant was amazing in the christmas period, very warm and welcoming. We stayed just one night, did not have any problems with the staff. The room was clean and comfortable and it was warm. It is not very cheap, but we do not regret the money we paid, it was nice stay at Avignon.

We stayed in this hotel on a quiet summer night in a room that faced the square outside. In the middle of the night we heard loud music and the sound of drunk partiers just below our window. Thinking it was just the big city (we live in NY), we ignored them and waited for them to pass. But after an hour we realized that it wasn't a group of transient partiers but the actual hotel night staff making all the noise. Furthermore, they were drunk, not covering the desk (we called down to ask WTF) and they were the ONLY people in the square at that hour. I went downstairs and berated the staff for their ignorance and terrible professionalism (what if someone was calling the desk with a heart attack???) and the next morning I spoke to the owner. In typical French arrogance he blamed me for not staying at a better hotel and stated that he's not responsible for his staff's behaviour. Both arguments smacked of pure ignorance about how to run a hotel or provide customer service. The fact that he wouldn't accept Amex is a pretty sure sign that he can't handle a liason inquriing about his

As for the rooms, they look unique but ultimately they are in poor condition and the hotel's mismanagement ruins the entire experience.

We checked into the Hotel du Palais des Papes (not the Kyriad) and were really disappointed with the "superior" room that came with a broken fan and no air con because although we had booked several weeks before they had run out of rooms with the advertised air con. Not great in 30+ degree weather. We stayed in a number of other 2 and 3 star hotels during a two month trip in France and Italy that were completely adequate, and often exceeded our expectations, but this hotel was completely below par. It may have a nice cafe and location but the room was appalling: hot and stuffy, hard bed, and exposed wires in the hallway outside the room. We left that night, took the hit of the one night we had already paid for and avoided a ruined stay in Avignon.

I ve been there with my familly for a 3 nights stay and it was fabulous from our arrival to our departur! Service was perfect and the staff friendly. The restaurant of the hotel was a good stop for dinners.
I will recommend room 20 and 22, for the restaurant I will recommend the Bourride.
