“A clean and comfortable home base.”

We stayed at Hotel Garlande for 5 nights in Sept., using it as a home base for day trips to Provence and neighboring villages. It was a little difficult to locate by car until we saw the phone near the entrance to the street, which allows you to speak with the hotel and they will lower the barrier for you to drive right up to the entrance. Aside from that, it is in a great location. Olivier was very helpful with luggage, dining suggestions, and tourist info and spoke English when our French failed us. I can't say enough good things about him! We had the room at the top of the spiral staircase, which was huge and clean, and faced the street. There is some street noise from nearby cafes in the evening, and street cleaners in the morning if you leave the windows open. The a/c worked great and was so quiet! Bathroom was also large, modern, and clean. Discounted parking is about a 5 mn. walk away in a multilevel garage, which could be intimidating to those not used to small spaces, but is typical in European cities. We ate breakfast at various cafes around town instead of the hotel, so can't comment on that. If we return to Avignon, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. The room we booked could accomodate 4 people and the rate we booked at reflected this. However, since we were only a couple, they lowered the rate upon check out. I really appreciated this because in the US, you book a room and pay that price regardless of the number of people. We have never encountered this in our travels in Europe.

“Fantastic stay”

The Garlande is well-located, within walking distance to the Palais des Papes, the Pont d'Avignon, and several museums. Olivier, the owner and manager, was extremely welcoming, and as we arrived during the low season, upgraded our standard double to a superior room with a bathtub. The room was spacious and comfortable, breakfast was simple but delicious, and while a bit of street noise in the morning woke us up on our third day, even our ground-level room was generally quiet. This was one of the best hotel stays we've had, and we travel quite frequently.

“Right at Home in Avignon!”

We loved our 2 night stay at Hotel Garlande while traveling from Paris to Barcelona by train!

Olivier greeted us warmly upon our arrival, after a short walk from the Avignon Train Station. He checked us in quickly and helped us with our bags, to the top of a winding staircase and into a huge room on the top floor. The room and bath were spotlessly clean and were kept that way during our visit. The A/C worked great and the comfortable couch and bed were nice to come home to after long days of sightseeing.

We were able to walk everywhere from the hotel, including the Pope's Palace, The Bridge of Avignon, Avignon Universtity, and many shops and cafes.

Avignon is an absolutely amazing Medieval walled city, and the entire time we were there we felt like we were on a beautiful movie set. The quaint streets and beautiful old buildings were fun to walk around, and the many churches and public squares really made us feel like locals!

We highly recommend Hotel Garlande to everyone, and cannot wait for our return visit!
Many thanks to Olivier and the staff for making our short visit to Avignon one of the highlights of our first trip to Europe!

Room Tip: We booked the "Superior" room on the top floor and were not disappointed! There is no ele...

“Well positioned, but hard to find!”

We spent two great nights at the Hotel Garlande. It is not a fancy place -- it deserves both of its two stars. But the staff and location make up for what it lacks in fancy edges. Our room was very large and comfortable (which a heck of a drop down step into the bathroom). The setting is ideal -- within steps of great restaurants and wonderful sights. The front desk staff provided tremendous assistance and provided a warm and friendly welcome. The streets of Avignon are complicated and confusing -- and the hotel's website provides very little guidance. It is very hard to drive to the hotel to drop off your bag. If you call ahead, the hotel can remove the barriers on the tight and winding roads and allow you to drive in. A nice place to visit a remarkable city.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the top of the winding stairs -- very quiet and comfortable.

“Perfect for this woman traveling solo...”

What a great hotel. As a single woman traveling alone in Europe for the first time, I knew many things could go wrong. When I got off the train in Avignon, and my luggage headed on to Marseilles, I almost panicked -- but Olivier at the Hotel de Garlande saved the day, and with it my trip.

After arriving on the TGV, I went straight to the Hotel, and explained that my luggage was still on the train headed for Marseilles. Olivier told me not to worry, and sent me to a great nearby restaurant while he set to calling. By the time I was back, he had learned that my luggage was safe in at the Marseilles train station and could tell me exactly where to find it. After a short round-trip train ride the next morning, I'd recovered my bag and was settled in the hotel.

And a wonderful hotel it was. The location is wonderful, centrally placed in Avignon, and the staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. The room was great, the bathroom modern and well-equipped. Even if they hadn't saved my trip, I'd recommend them to anyone.
