We stayed at Hotel Garlande for 5 nights in Sept., using it as a home base for day trips to Provence and neighboring villages. It was a little difficult to locate by car until we saw the phone near the entrance to the street, which allows you to speak with the hotel and they will lower the barrier for you to drive right up to the entrance. Aside from that, it is in a great location. Olivier was very helpful with luggage, dining suggestions, and tourist info and spoke English when our French failed us. I can't say enough good things about him! We had the room at the top of the spiral staircase, which was huge and clean, and faced the street. There is some street noise from nearby cafes in the evening, and street cleaners in the morning if you leave the windows open. The a/c worked great and was so quiet! Bathroom was also large, modern, and clean. Discounted parking is about a 5 mn. walk away in a multilevel garage, which could be intimidating to those not used to small spaces, but is typical in European cities. We ate breakfast at various cafes around town instead of the hotel, so can't comment on that. If we return to Avignon, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. The room we booked could accomodate 4 people and the rate we booked at reflected this. However, since we were only a couple, they lowered the rate upon check out. I really appreciated this because in the US, you book a room and pay that price regardless of the number of people. We have never encountered this in our travels in Europe.
