“A wonderful experience in a typical provencal one star hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We visited in the coldest February on record with the temperature minus 5 plus a windchill of another 10 degrees.
Reception is warm and welcoming. The rooms are clean and cosy. The bathrooms are tiny but what do you expect from a conversion from an 18th century building. This is a one star property. Do not expect the Ritz or the facilities of the Ritz, but DO expect a warm provencal welcome. Do expect help and advice of what to see and where to go because you will receive all of this. In the tiny breakfast room do not expect a full cooked breakfast but do expect a typical family breakfast of juice, rolls and coffee. This is Avignon. What more do you expect? And the price is so reasonable. In the breakfast room you will find posters of the regions attractions (and they are wonderful) together with an indication of how long it takes to reach them by car. No car? Then do what we did and use the wonderful local transport. Everyone speaks English at the rail station and they will offer special prices for Senior Citizens. Just ask. All in all a wonderful experience. Just expect what you would normally get for this price and be surprised and grateful when you get more.

“Definitely a one star experience”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012 via mobile

Stayed here so we could save some money for one night and due to good reviews. Regretted it. Though the front desk was friendly and the location superb, the rooms smelled like old man. The decor felt like I'd been transported back to the 70s. Everything looked clean enough however there was hair inside our sheets before we used them and there were serious doubts about whether they had changed the sheets. The bathroom is tiny and fits literally one person standing at any one time. Unless you're happy to rough it out I say give it a miss.

“Good hotel/Good location”

We stayed 3 nights at a standard double room for 65 Euros in December 2011.

- Location is central, close to places of interest(About 200m to center).
- Serge at front desk provides excellent service
- No elevator
- No place to attach the shower head. Hard to take a shower while holding it with one hand.
- The sliding toilet door is difficult to close properly since there is no handle inside.
- Breakfast is included in price. Simple but totally satisfying.
- The room is not fancy but clean.
- At this price,it is a steal and good enough for undemanding traveler.

“Good hotel, wonderful location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

Service - fine.
Value - excellent, very cheap.
Sleep Quality - surprisingly good. Comfortable beds and quiet rooms.
Cleanliness - good.
Location - excellent. Close to everything you need to see in Avignon.
Rooms - initial impressions of the rooms were that they were small and shabby but over time, it became quite cosy and charming. Small bathrooms but adequate showers. Only problem with the hotel is the air freshener they use in all the corridors and rooms - it is quite pungent, we had to air out the rooms everytime we came back.

Travel tips - eat at Newground (best restaurant in our travels around France). Affordable, creative dishes that never disappoint. Excellent service too.

Overall impressions - charming hotel in an excellent location. Would stay again.

“Affordable Decent Lodging”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2011

We stayed here for 2 days. To get the hotel after coming out from the TGV Avignon station, turn left on exit from the station towards bus station, walk down the slope and Navette bus is waiting only 50m from the exit. Pay 1.2 euros fare and bus will stop outside Post Office within the city walls. On returning to AGV Avignon, go to same venue. Once you alight from the bus, turn around and walk towards Cours Jean Jaures. Follow this road and continue up rue de la Republique (approx 800m). Along the way, stop by the Tourisme Office, near the MacDonald's outlet, to collect your maps and brochures. At the Place de L'Horloge, turn left and walk down rue St Agricol (approx 200m) until you reach rue Joseph Vernet. Turn right and hotel is 50m down the road.
Owner stays onsite and is most helpful with his knowledge about the area.He is always there whenever we return to hotel and ready to help when needed. Room is quiet, nice and warm. The only setback is the small bathroom but we managed. Wifi is good and easily accessible. Breakfast can be arranged with owner. Hotel is near the places of interest. We will come back and stay when we return to Avignon in future.
