I nearly always base hotel selections on Trip Advisor recommendations, and boyoboy was I let down on this one. Danieli Hotel was an absolute dump, and I've traveled all over the world and have learned not to be overly picky about hotels, especially in developing countries. But this was France, for heaven's sake! It also was under renovation, meaning rolls of carpet, kickplates, whole radiators, boxes, and other construction debris were all over the hallways. The first rooms my friend and I were assigned both reeked of unidentifiable chemical and organic matter miasmas. The desk clerk was minimally helpful about allowing us to see three other rooms, but refused after that.
We switched, and both got rooms with no side wall trim at the bottom of the walls, stripped areas on walls, damaged "chandeliers", and general grossness. Floor covering was a wall-to-wall plastic mat with fake bamboo design. It looked dirty so I kept my socks on.
In my room, there was no artwork on the walls, an ugly Ikea full length mirror, no basic amenities such as clock, radio, writing paper or pen, just a phone that no one answered when I called the front desk. The t.v. was a 13" wall-mounted model that could not be seen from the bed without a telescope. The bathroom was a decent size but water flow was very week. Shampoo/body wash/hand cleaner provided smelled like Lysol.
We had breakfast on the first day, which was substandard for the 9 euros charged. A so-so croissant, bread, cheese, cereal. That was it. Much better offerings elsewhere.
The only good thing I can say about the Danieli is that the bed was comfortable: firm mattress and decent linens.
The experience of staying at Danieli Hotel was horrible from the first step in. There are many hotels in Avignon. This one was cheap, and lived up to its cost. Stay away.
