“Oh, Trip Advisor, You done me wrong!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

I nearly always base hotel selections on Trip Advisor recommendations, and boyoboy was I let down on this one. Danieli Hotel was an absolute dump, and I've traveled all over the world and have learned not to be overly picky about hotels, especially in developing countries. But this was France, for heaven's sake! It also was under renovation, meaning rolls of carpet, kickplates, whole radiators, boxes, and other construction debris were all over the hallways. The first rooms my friend and I were assigned both reeked of unidentifiable chemical and organic matter miasmas. The desk clerk was minimally helpful about allowing us to see three other rooms, but refused after that.

We switched, and both got rooms with no side wall trim at the bottom of the walls, stripped areas on walls, damaged "chandeliers", and general grossness. Floor covering was a wall-to-wall plastic mat with fake bamboo design. It looked dirty so I kept my socks on.

In my room, there was no artwork on the walls, an ugly Ikea full length mirror, no basic amenities such as clock, radio, writing paper or pen, just a phone that no one answered when I called the front desk. The t.v. was a 13" wall-mounted model that could not be seen from the bed without a telescope. The bathroom was a decent size but water flow was very week. Shampoo/body wash/hand cleaner provided smelled like Lysol.

We had breakfast on the first day, which was substandard for the 9 euros charged. A so-so croissant, bread, cheese, cereal. That was it. Much better offerings elsewhere.

The only good thing I can say about the Danieli is that the bed was comfortable: firm mattress and decent linens.

The experience of staying at Danieli Hotel was horrible from the first step in. There are many hotels in Avignon. This one was cheap, and lived up to its cost. Stay away.

“Great location, but noisy on Samedi Nuit Blanche”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

One could not wish for a hotel with a better location in terms of proximity to trains, buses and the major attractions of beautiful Avignon. But if you happen to be there on a Samedi Nuit Blanche, request a room as far as possible from the streets and alleyways. This is because on selected Saturday nights, bars, nightclubs, museums and galleries remain open all night long. The noise of young people celebrating might be uplifting earlier in the evening, but becomes more irritating and raucous as the hours go by. However, the staff at the hotel were very helpful and charming. The breakfast was adequate, but the boiled eggs could have been fresher. Lugging luggage up and down stairs was a bit of a challenge with the absence of elevators, but all part of the experience.

Room Tip: Request a quiet location if there on a Saturday night, particularly a "Samedi Nuit Blanche"...

“Comfortable, cost effective and central hotel in Avignon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

The Hotel Danieli is just off the main downtown square in Avignon. Six of us stayed there about December 1, 2011, and paid about $175 for triple rooms (a couple + sister, which split up to $58 each, really a good value for a straightforward hotel in this wonderful city. It is one block from the narrow-streets-converted-into-shopping-mall, and there are at least 10 good restaurants within an easy walk, like 3 blocks. The Hotel has a breakfast, but it is more fun to go to the Palace des Glace, one of those outside French pastry bistros you see, right across the street, for a sweet and cappucino. Carrefour, sort of a mini supermarket, is a half-block away, with food and wine if you want. And the main parking lot of the area at about $20 per night is about 5 blocks away. You can also use the Hotel lot, which I think is cheaper or free. We all agreed we would go back here again if we return to Avignon. No elevator. Plenty of ATMs nearby, or banks. This was during the Christmas Fare, and the entire central square was lit up with Christmas lights! Absolutely amazing.

“Careful, I was stollen 25€ by this hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

I and my family stayed in this hotel in August 2011. I was charged an extra 25€ five days after I left the hotel due, so they say, to a broken lamp found in the room. We didn't break any lamp or damaged any other thing in the room as I explained later. Of course we would have told in case of responsibility by any broken thing. Hotel Danieli abusively took money from my account using my credit card number without my permission and showed no willingness to solve the problem.

“Good quality, good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011

We got one of the larger rooms on the top floor - it was lovely, can't fault it. The room and bathroom were very spacious and very clean.

The location was good, only a 15-20 minute walk to the bus stop and train station and it was on the main street. It was also a 5 minute walk to Popes Palace.

The breakfast was good quality, they even had a juicer to make your own freshly squeezed orange juice.

I would recommend this hotel to any type of traveler.
