I've just returned from my December trip to Provence and thus I had not been at my Hotel 'Hotel D'Europe' since July. Can this hotel elevate itself anymore..is it possible? What has changed is that they have updated the rooms with a beautiful crisp white-lemon color and changed the fabrics on thier beautiful antique and beautiful furniture to go with this new color. The result is stunning! It reminds me of my room in the 'George Cinq' in Paris. I stayed in one of the 'Luxe' rooms and again...another room discovered that was superb. Entryway room with entrance to the most modern, marble and Tout-luxe bathroom that you could imagine. A bathtub made for two that looked so inviting with all the wonderful luxe toiletries. 40 inch flatscreen TV and of course..the detail ob the walls and ceiling of a building that dates back to the 14th-15thC. As usual, the bed lulls you to sleep and the beautiful antique writind desk with side chair is perfect to do work with 'Free Wifi'. The Hotel was truly decked out for Noel and it felt very merry and cheery with beatiful decorative tableaus ..tres francais! Try a glass of the Viognier in the bar before going to dinner. It is my favorite white in this region and the hotel has one of the best. I also recommend the Hotel Michelin star restaurant for at keast one night if you are staying for several days. The menu of the season was wonderful. I especially loved the Veloute of Legumes and Gambetta and the amazing Pork dish in a reduced sauce infused with Provencal herbs. The staff, of course, make or break any hotel. Fernando being at the helm with his infectious genuine personality that instills warmth, a truly happy manner where he will make anything that you need, possible and feeling cared for in his capable hands is what gives the Hotel that special something. The Staff: Ana, Marcela, Sergio, Sebastien, Aurelie and everyone else I didn't mention are just TOP. They are Hoteliers in the most profesional sense with a special provencal warmth. It is hard to get all in a review...the 19thC elevator that just drips with atmosphere...the stunning lobby and the amazing breakfast that I always take in my room as it is not just for sleeping and rushing out (like in most hotels)....these amazing rooms become part of the Provencal experience and what better way to start the day than with a superb, fresh breakfast (far less money than any other 5* hotel) in your beautiful room. Comme habitude, I always say it is my 'home away from home'.
Room Tip: If you decide to take a 'Chambre Luxe'...I love 112 the best. For a Superior....Chambre 101.
