“THE MOST HORRIBLE STAY EVER”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 July 2011

We are two ladies that have been travelling for a while and had the misfortune of staying in this place. All started the night we arrived when we got to our room and noticed it was boiling hot due to the floor being really hot ( something they still havent told us why). For this reason we had to sleep with our windows openned cuz rooms have no airconditioner. Then, the toilet wasnt flushing but besides that it was running water the whole night. I have a very light sleep, so I had to find myself something to put on my ears otherwise I wouldnt be able to sleep. We called the reception to solve this running water problem, they went to the room but did nothing about it.
Next morning, we had another surprise: breakfast wasnt included in our reservation, something we didnt realise before because the email hostelworld sent us didnt mention it. When we tryed to discuss this problem with the manager, he shouted at us, called us names, refused to speak in english and EVEN LUCKED US INSIDE THE HOTEL after we said we didnt want to pay for any of it since he threated me of charging the stay in my credit card given to hostelworld as well.
Big stress and the most unplesant stay EVER!!!

“I enjoyed my stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2010

From the outside this hotel is nothing to look at but inside it is lovely, and the staff are helpful and friendly. While the room is basic, it is clean and of a reasonable size, as is the bathroom. There is no lift, but the stairs are not too difficult to climb. The room has a ceiling fan, which provided adequate cooling in September, when the days were not hot. From my room I had a view over a plant filled rear central courtyard, which was just beautiful. The breakfast was good value and had a good selection. The hotel is close walking distance to restaurants and not far from the main sights. I would recommend this hotel as a good place to stay within the ancient city walls of Avignon for a very good price.

“Friendly and pleasant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2009

A good budget alternative to the more glamorous large hotels. Rooms were clean and of good size and with some character. En suites are dated and small. Breakfast is basic but adequate and was included in the price (this had not been expected). Helpful staff.

“Rooms recently renovated; pleasant but small”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 May 2009

I just spent a weekend at the Hotel Magnan and wanted to update some of the information in previous posts. Despite what the signs say, they now have a 24-hour front desk, so you no longer need to remember the room code.

Also, they're finishing up renovations that (according to the front desk) affected all the rooms. I know my room had a new sink, new shower, new tilework, new toilet, new carpet, and new bed, so while small, it was a very pleasant surprise for all the stuff to be so new. Now, the drawback is that the room had that "new carpet" smell that had to be aired out, but honestly, given all the things a carpet in a hotel can smell like, I really can't complain about newness being the smell.

I dealt with three different people at the front desk over the course of my stay, and all were very friendly. The location is good. It's about 200m or so from the bus station, which is right next to the SNCF train station, and about 15 minutes to walk to the tourist part of town. The block it's on isn't particularly interesting and a little empty when it gets late, but if you're concerned about safety, you can always walk around the outside of the city walls, which is on a busy street. And the hotel is directly inside one of the entries through the city walls.

As for negatives, I can't speak for all the rooms, but I know the room I was in was very small. There was just enough room to walk by my bed and into the bathroom. For someone like me, traveling light, it was fine. But as there was a double bed, it could be used for 2 people, and if 2 people each had a suitcase, it would be pretty tough. I'm sure there are bigger rooms there, but just be aware you may get a tiny one. I noticed another person on this site complained about the groups. While I didn't have any problems myself, I did notice there was a large group there. I guess I just got lucky and got a well-behaved one.

I would stay there again though if I'm in town. The location and cleanliness are good, and the wifi is convenient.

“Pleasant Friendly Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2008

Quite a good two star hotel. Room was €80 for two of us and breakfast another 8 per person. Good choice of stuff for breakfast. Room clean and pleasantly furnished overlooking a leafy inner courtyard. Staff very friendly and helpful. No hotel parking. Free parking nearby but it can be hard to get a space, even in September.

  • Liked — Friendly, Clean, Good Location.
  • Disliked — Nothing bad.
