“So many little corners on this property - lots of treasures to discover”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2010

Fountains, stone paths, animals, gardens, a pool... there were so many fun little corners on this property we were happy we chose it. When we stayed in Arles, we planned to tour some of the surronding areas (you MUST go to Pond du Guard). With that in mind, we had a car. As some have already said, this hotel is not close to the city so having a car makes the stay here very easy (although there are bikes available). Our stay at this hotel was very enjoyable. The staff were so happy and friendly and that's the feel of the hotel as well. We stayed in the Chambre Vert. All I could think was "very Provenceal". The decore was quaint and cozy and had a country feel. The rooms all feel like small cottages spearated by stone paths. If you can't tell from this review so far, there are lots of gardens and grounds here so be prepared for a few spiders, insects and lizards. Not at all a bad thing - just part of the experience. There was a train or airport or something close by (we honestly didnt know what it was) but we only heard the noise occasionally since we weren't in the room other than to sleep. We didnt hear the train/plane after 11pm. We were adamant that we were not going to eat in any hotels while we were in France, but once we experienced this place, we had to make an exception. The breakfast is a lot of fun - at least once. There was a lot of food and the small dining room just felt wonderful when it was full of eager tourists and the smell of fresh coffee and croissants. If you're lucky, you will get to eat out in the yard on the rustic tables or even eat near the lovely pool. If you want a country cottage experience, you will enjoy the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere that embraces Mas de la Chapelle.

“Mosquitoes, ripped carpets, tired furnishings, bonus train tracks”

For this price we expected something clean and reasonable. The "Superior Double Room" has no shower, is decorated with somewhere between "my maiden aunt tacky" and "deferred maintenance". The trains rumbling past drowned out the mosquitoes in the room - we left shortly after the first train went by.

“one like no one”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2010

This hotel is absolutely charming, one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to and definitely one of a kind. Me and my husband spent 3 nights there and felt totally at home, actually I wish we could live in such a place all year round! The parc is beautiful and very romantic, very tranquil too. We didn't use the pool because we were too busy visiting the surroundings but it looked inviting . There are animals: gods, geeses, a rooster . From our room we could see squirrels early in the morning ,the rooster woke us up quite early each day but we found this rather amusing ! The dogs are playful and will not bother you unless you want to play with them (which I did).
The room was spacious and bright, a bit isolated from the main establishment which to me is a plus. Definitely a place I will never forget and which I'll come back to if I'll ever get the chance to return to Arles again.

“If you enjoy hearing trains running all night at 20 metres away from the property...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2010

No one said it was so close to the railroad.... constant flow of trains during the night.... hard to sleep.
Bedroom was not very clean, lots of spider webs around the bed...
No one at front desk... very poor service. No internet in rooms
Breakfast only after 9 am... so too bad if you wish an early coffee...
and if you enjoy having to carry your tray around and of course putting it back in the dining room as no one picks up after you!...
I do not mind doing this, but not at 195 euros a night.
Oh an of course no restaurant close by... you do have to drive to town, rain or shine... tired or not... if you want to eat or drink a cup of tea or coffee . Not my idea of a 3 star Chateaux

“Romance and authenticity in the heart of Provence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2009

I had trepidations about the Mas based on some of the reviews here and so was so completely blown away by how lovely it was when I arrived with my boyfriend. It is only a five minute drive outside of Arles but the setting, with its wandering paths amidst the gardens, was a welcome relief after the crowds in town. We were treated to a heart felt welcome and I soon understood why the other guests that were lounging on relaxers and beside the pool looked so at home. Time to open up the rosé!

We stayed in the Chambre du Commandeur which was very spacious with high cielings, was decorated with antiques and had a nice view over the gardens and pool. Each room that we peeked in at seemed to have a slightly different theme--the modern room with its own terrace on the top of the Mas will be for our next stay.

I loved the over the top decor in the 12th century chapel--ask about the origins of the two ton statue of the Virgin Mary. The Mas is unique and not at all the cookie cutter experience that we found throughout the region. The owner is charming and a great source of information for the area. If you hate animals, then this is not the place for you--there are dogs, cats, horses and geese! Otherwise, don't hesitate.
