“Excellent Tourist Hotel for Arles and Region”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2010

I stayed in Hotel Constantin for 4 nights in November 2011. I had a double room for single use which was 50 Euros/night plus breakfast. The Hotel is well situated to the old section of Arles and within easy walking distance of all major attractions. It is also very close to a large number of free parking spaces which also came in hnady, as I had a rental car during my visit. I used the Hotel as a base to explore Arles, Carmargue, Avignon, and Marseille. The manager was very helpful in providing restaurant recommendations as well as suggestions re: exploring the area around Arles.

“Fine for a night or two”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2010

We were attracted to this hotel for two reasons - cheap with free parking. Oh and they have free WiFi too so that was a huge plus. We stayed for two nights only, if we had stayed for three I would look for a room elsewhere and nearer to where the action is. The room is small, tired and the shower is small and moldy. Don't get me wrong, it is clean, but it's just old. The hotel does not have an elevator. The lady at the reception was very nice & helpful but the older guy was very grumpy & smelly! He was also very upset with us for checking in so late at night (we got lost, GPS went bonkers on us) but he did take us to our room (thank god!).

The parking lot is very safe even at night. You need to walk at least 10mins to Arles town center and all the tourist attractions. Only stay here if you just need a place to sleep and shower for a few nights and you are on an absolute budget.

“Great value in Arles”

We stayed here for 3 nights in late July.

At 60 Euro a night it's excellent value.

Our room was a reasonable size, with the all important aircon! Bathroom decor was a little tired but overall we were happy with the hotel.

It's a ten minute or so stroll to the centre of Arles.

Tip: If you arrive by train, there is a free shuttle bus from the station that stops right outside the hotel

“Nice enough for one night.”

This is a great place for a short term stay. It actually reminded me of some french quarter places in New Orleans. The neighborhood looks a bit creepy, but on the other hand, the reception lady gave a a very good dinner recommendation (Au brin de thym). Room was big enough. We did not opt for the breakfast. AC and Wifi (after using a 20+ character password) working nicely.

“Not the Ritz, but affordable & good service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2009

My husband & 10-year-old son & I stayed at the Hotel Constantin for 2 nights in late June. There is nothing at all deluxe about this place. The rooms are small, the shower stalls miniscule, the breakfast adequate but not that special (croissants with jam, coffee, hot chocolate), the location convenient but not fantastic, etc. But the price was right, and we found the service super friendly and attentive, which is why it's getting 4 stars.

Our first night there was tough: The room was cramped & musty, we were plagued by a mosquito, & I was kept awake all night by a crying baby and neighboring toilets. The next morning we asked if it was possible to move to another room (the other option being to find a different hotel), and the proprietors moved us upstairs to a much nicer room. They even moved all of our luggage for us while we were out sightseeing. If you're reserving a triple, avoid Room #5. Room #7 on the third floor is not much bigger, but quieter & more cheerfully decorated.

They were also really great about recommending restaurants & local activities. A restaurant we loved: L'Ecrin, just northeast of the amphitheater. Wonderful tapas, great service, pizzas perfect for picky kids. Another recommendation: the Musée départemental Arles antique, easy walking distance from the hotel. Scale models of the theater & amphitheater during Roman times, cool sarcophagi, mosaic restoration projects, insights into ancient life in Arles.

If I were in Arles for more than a few days, I'd probably want to stay somewhere a bit roomier & more comfortable. But for a short stay on a budget, this place was fine. And the warmth & helpfulness of the proprietors made all the difference in the world.
