I loved Arles. We visited during the Festival de Riz. This featured a 3 day bull fighting event (the bulls were not killed). It was a lot of fun. The Camargue is also a definite must see.
This Mercure hotel is located conveniently in the vicinity of both the Camargue (30 minute drive) and the Arles City Center (20 minute walk).
The service was OK, room/bathroom average but clean, no safe in the room, but safety deposit box available in the hotel front desk.
My only real negative feedback is, in order to get to the Arles city center you must walk 20-30 minutes and pass under the freeway, driving/taxis aren't really options. So in the evening, we decided to walk to the city for dinner and fun. We decided to stay late to watch the bull fight festivities. But afterward we had to walk back to the hotel (under the freeway). It was very deserted and dark so it was a little scary. Once we got there, we found that the entire hotel is in this closed gated area and you had to use an intercomm to get the front desk to open the gate for you. If you are parking a rented car, this is reassuring, but a little intimidating for foot traffic in the dark.
Should maybe pick a more centrally located hotel if your main goal is to visit the Arles city center.
