“Secure parking and room service, what more do you want?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2011

I have had my share of driving in narrow alleys, with no parking anywhere. This hotel fulfilled my needs perfectly, I was able to park, and walk everywhere.
Loved that I could choose weather I wanted my breakfast in bed or in the dining room. The breakfast is far superior to what I have experienced. Coffee exceptional with all the trimmings I could want.
This is not your average shiny slick hotel, but everything was spotless and welcoming.
Loved the shoe cleaner in the hall at the elevator. VERY nice touch.

Room Tip: I was on the 7th floor - quiet, with brilliant view. Booked on the internet and got great rates.

“Hotel on the edge of city but easily walkable to all the sites.”

The staff at this hotel were all extremely friendly and helpful. The dinners in the hotel restaurant were fully acceptable. Rooms were clean and spacious. Plenty of car parking. Pool area looked very nice. There is a very large history museum close by and also a new park build to show how the Romans played in their day.

“In need of renovation”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2009

Stayed here for 1 night on business. Bed was uncomfortable and the entire hotel seemed to be in need of renovation. Room smelt of years of french cigarette smoking. Arrived late without a booking as my flight into Marseilles was delayed. Rack rate was EUR 130 without breakfast, but I guess you can prebook on the web for about half of that. Peeped into the breakfastroom to see what was served and found it was not worth the money. Hotel seemed to be filled up with coachparties that were all leaving on the same time, which meant that the capacity of elevator was insufficient. Decided to carry my suitcase downstairs only to find that door from stairway to be locked or blocked. Reception staff tried their best and service was overall much better than the hotel itself.

“An absolute disaster”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2008

We travelled with a group and stayed from 2nd to 10th October. The rooms are in bad need of renovation, especially the bathrooms. The beds had a sheet and blanket. The blanket still had hairs on it from the previous guest(s). Towel changing was a problem - dirty towels were sometimes collected but not replaced, so we had to contact reception for clean ones. However, we often got new soap when it wasn't necessary, and one day had a grand total of five plastic cups in the bathroom, when two would have sufficed. The bathroom floors were not cleaned regularly, neither were the bedrooms. On arrival there was still some cellophane on the floor from a previous guest. This only disappeared when the room was hoovered four days later. Many of the group's televisions didn't work. This was only put right after asking two or three times.
The worst aspect was the food. There are two restaurants, one for individual travellers, the other for the groups. I can only comment on the "group" restaurant. Breakfast was baguette, but the semi-baked stuff which was never baked, so it remained squashy to say the least. There was no knife to cut it with, only a guillotine which squashed it even more. There was one sort of mild, insipid cheese and one sort of boiled ham which was always wet - presumably from plastic packaging. Coffee was dispensed from a big metal pot with a tap - OK for a youth hostel perhaps, but not to be expected in a three-star hotel!
Dinner was a little better. We had an excellent vegetable soup one evening. The fish and meat dishes in general were very good, but the vegetables often cooked beyond recognition. Except for one evening when fruit was offered, the dessert was normally a sticky gâteau. The only nice member of evening staff, an Asian-looking young man, always offered fruit when somebody declined the gâteau - this is the only positive comment I can give. He was excellent! The other evening staff often tried to overcharge for the drinks, adding an extra beer here and there.

  • Liked — it was possible to open the window, so didn't need air-conditioning
  • Disliked — the plastic shower curtain

“Terrible Hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 April 2007
1
person found this review helpful

Massively overpriced at 130 euros for a twin-bed with no breakfast, bath panel rotting, bath tiles all smashed and not replaced, decor awful, nowhere to go in the hotel where people weren't constantly smoking at all hours of the day and night, the lobby, bar and seating area all stank of it. We arrived late otherwise we would have walked out as soon as we saw the room. This place is not worth 30 euros a night, let alone 130.
