“Beautiful Ancient Monastary Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2010

If you travel to Arles France you will want to experience the Jules Cesar Hotel. The ancient roman though in France entrance, hints at what is to come when you walk through their doors. Not only is the staff welcoming but service is their main objective and you will feel pampered and cared for in this home away from home. The lobby salon is palatial but understated with an open bar and cozy seating venues. Their ancient cell rooms have been updated for any travelers taste european or stateside. Picture a two story stone building with a beautiful enormous courtyard in the entire center of the estate. You can easily imagine the ancient holy order walking on the stone floor, praying and pacing the entire building many times around each day. Just a side note, we attended a cocktail party in an old chapel and all the photo's taken from a digital camera had many orbs in them, hummm. The hotel is located in the very center of the ancient city with loud city noises, but behind the hotel walls is complete quietness, another unexplained phenomenon. Go enjoy and experience a very ancient city and it wonderful folksy engaging people.

“Dissapointing stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2010

We stayed here on a trip to Provence and Spain in March of 2010...definitely not on a par with the other hotels during our trip - all at a similar price point. The place is definitely overdue for a refurbishment - perhaps it was purely the season but the hotel's common areas have the ambiance of a retirement home. And the rooms are definitely tired - not at all what we were expecting from the photos / website etc.

“Just our type of hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2010

We loved the Jules Cesar. The hotel was all booked for our 5 day stay in Arles, but our travel agent, Seaside Travel of Long Beach, CA, was able to secure reservations for us. We are so glad as we loved this historic property. It is beautiful, well-located and quite.
The rooms were furnished with antiques, our view was lovely. And oh, the wonderful room service breakfasts! The front desk service was the best. They were so nice and helpful to two bumbling seniors!

“Beautiful, romantic hotel.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2010

I only stayed here one night but as the taxi driver who drove us from the airport very approvingly said, it is a "Très très bon" hotel. Yes it doesn't have stairs but it they carried our bags up the one flight of stairs. The room was very old fashioned but in a good way, in keeping with the character of the hotel. It was very hot and after a morning of sightseeing we spent late afternoon by the pool in the garden. Being a rather pale English girl it was lovely to be able rest in the deep shade of the trees rather than try and fit two people under one parasol.
My impression of the hotel was excellent and I would definitely recommended it. I booked through Bookings.com and paid £150 plus city taxes. They originally made the bill out for £250 so I guess that is the rack rate.

“smart and well situated”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2010

Our first choice (mid price) Arles hotels were fully booked so we thought we'd see what was available in the more upscale Jules Cesar. Their cheapest rooms turned out to be (comparatively) reasonably priced and overall we were pleased to have ended up here. Although the rooms themselves were a bit small and dowdy, the public rooms are smart and elegant - we enjoyed taking drinks in the marbled foyer, and eating on the smart restaurant terrace. All the staff were helpful and efficient and the restaurant staff were particularly friendly. The food was extremely good. We had one of the cheaper set menus and were particularly impressed by our main course of beef cooked in three ways - tartare, parmentier and tournedos. We were pleasantly surprised when our little girl (10) was offered a sensible and inexpensive children's menu. The swimming pool is small but pretty, and there is a shady sunken garden in the cloistered courtyard. This is the kind of rather swanky town hotel which can seem a bit impersonal and soulless - but the Jules Cesar, while not exactly charming, has many excellent qualities.
