“Poorly managed and overpriced”

This hotel was the last we stayed in on a two week tour of Provence, and was the greatest disappointment of the trip. We checked in and were given the key to a room which we found to have a broken door lock and could not be properly secured. The window also overlooked a very noisy motorway. We asked for a different room and were first told there was none available, but after much insistence we were given a substitute. This room was secure, but incredibly dirty and had a noticable mildew odor. The shower had been recently re-done and as described in another review was fitted with a tub that pooled water in the corners and ran out onto the floor. Irritations like the third world fluorescent lights that hummed and flickered for nearly a minute before coming on, an air conditioner that was absolutely ineffectual, and filthy carpet and bedspread made the experience unpleasant. The advertised high speed internet was only accessible from the lobby and required that the user agree to receiving spam and cookies. Finally the location was in a rather dicey and isolated area about a kilometer from the main boulevard surrounding Arles.

Dear Mister,

The Hotel Arles Plaza made many works during the last winter to improve the room quality :
- the corridor were renoved
- the room were renoved too : work in painting, flooring changed, new LCD TV, new curtains and duvets instead of blankets, Wifi available and free.
- the room's door changed and equiped of card magnetic lock

Ongoing projects :
- Fitness room in free access for the guest of hotel
- Children's area with games

As you can see, the new management was aware of the conditions of the hotel, and improves week by week the quality of the Arles Plaza Hotel.

“Under new management, and undergoing renovations”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2010

The hotel is under new ownership since July 2010 and has been rebranded as the Hotel Arles Plaza. Renovations are underway, but nothing big enough to disturb our two-night stay., We were upgraded to one of the premium rooms as depicted on the website; the view (inward looking) was non-existant, but listen, you don't coime to Arles to stay in a hotel room. The carpet in the public areas reeks of nicotine (presumably it will be changed sometime) and the pool area was simple, if busy at times with boisterous Italian families. Don't bother with breakfast at 10 euros when you can do better five minutes away at any of the cafes on the Avenue Georges Clemenceau. Nice touch: insect repellent tissue in the bathroom (mosquitos are a fact of life in Arles in the summer months). All in all, it's what you'd expect from a three-star establishment in France.

“GO ELSEWHERE MY FRIEND”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2010

This choice of a hotel reflected a last minute booking out of a travel agency in Paris. The town was fairly booked out. When I arrived, the lobby was in high contrast to the worn exterior...bright and new and modern. However the room was the most depressing scene I had experienced in my 10 days of travel in France. It reminded me of an outdated Motel 6, with the primary color
scheme being brown. Stained carpets, minimal lighting, faded brown worn bedspread and none of the accessories one grows accustomed to in even a less expensive hotel. (4 packets of generic shampoo) Dingy grey towels, dingy poorly lit bathroom. It did not feel clean, it was not a place I wanted to relax in.

I decided to leave the "Do Not Disturb" sign on my room since my stay was short and I was feeling less safe about the place in general. (not typical for me) When I returned the maid service had serviced the room anyway, and I noticed that quite a few things had been moved around. I returned to Paris the next day, and noticed my designer coat had been taken from my suitcase. Yes, I thoroughly checked the room on departure.

Another concern re. this place is their security. I startled awake first night of my stay, turned on the light, and heard heavy footsteps running away in the outside courtyard.

Called to question this, and got the 'call later 'response. Now as I read the other reviews I can see it is wise to always do a bit of research before I book.

Positive things about this place would be a decent breakfast, and its about a 10-15 minute walk to the edge of town. Some of the receptionists were very helpful (young man in particular) as I speak only a little French..

If you choose this location, I would suggest that you be OK with losing anything you leave in the room.
Definitely not for a romantic getaway

“rooms do not match entrance area”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 May 2010

We stayed at this hotel based on having stayed at New Hotel Midi in MOntpellier which was very good.
Entrance lobby and pool area very nice but although the room was clean / tidy and well appointed it had 1 small window which faced an ugly internal " courtyard "
This was a superior room - we requested another room but all those available had the same problem.
A good 10 minutes walk to the main area of city.
Staff friendly and helpful

“So-so - expected more for the price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 May 2010

We were on a 5-day bicycle tour around Provence. As mentioned elsewhere, it isn't the most central of hotels, but the service was perfectly adequate and it's 10-15 minutes walk into the town centre. Our standard double room cost 75 Euros. The room itself was pleasant enough, clean and with a comfortable bed. However, the air conditioning in our particular room didn't seem to work and the room was noticeably warmer than the corridor outside. In addition, the bath tub in the bathroom was poorly designed. When you had a shower, water pooled in pockets around the edge of the bath tub and eventually overflowed onto the bathroom floor and out into the carpet in the room. The damp carpet combined with the warm room made the room a bit humid. Thankfully, the temperature outside was reasonably cool, so it was bearable. The water stains on the carpet suggest this is not a new problem, but the hotel management either haven't noticed or can't be bothered to fix it. The bottom line is that we had expected a bit more for our money.
