One of the things I love about travel is learning about cultures different to my own. As part of that learning I love to immerse myself in the culture of my destination. I try and follow the old adage, "when in Rome ..." it was disappointing therefore to find a B&B in the middle of Provence with a very American feel. In fact so American that the female host insisted that "only English is spoken in this house." And this was upon arrival. In fact rather than feel greeted and welcomed to a B&B my wife and I felt we were about to stay in a very strict dorm house with a whole host of rules and regulations spelt out to us. I don't mind rules and regulations at all but the manner in which they were conveyed by the female host was not very diplomatic. Unfortunately it appeared to me that the female host seemed to have forgotten she was no longer in New York and was living in one of the most beautiful and cultured parts of France. We found this attitude of almost ignoring French culture to be most disappointing. Also the mattresses were rock hard and extremely uncomfortable. On a plus side we found the male host delightful and the rooms clean and tidy. Having said that, this B&B is average but certainly nothing special. Overall, if you're from the United States and want to feel at home without paying too much then by all means stay here. If you want to experience genuine French culture then you'll have to find somewhere else.
