My husband and I stayed here for two nights in July. We wanted to stay in Aix but left it very late to book accommodation. The hotel is not in Aix. It is 10 kms outside Aix on the motorway in the middle of an industrial estate. We were very disappointed to say the least when we arrived.

The hotel itself is new and well appointed. It has a lovely pool (which is hard to find in Aix) but lacks atmosphere and character.

We ate in the hotel once....that should be enough said. It was not good and overpriced.

Overall we were disappointed, and will not be returning to the Royal Mirabeau.

The good:
The room was clean and maintained for the 5 days we stayed.
We had a top-level (165 Euros, rack rate) room, so we had a great view of the mountains and the golf course.
Parking was close to the building and free. It was outside parking, but in a safe neighborhood.
It was pretty quiet at night except for the first night when they had a large group in.
Great shower and adequate bath tub.
No vermin.

The bad:
Pretty cheesy room. Indoor/outdoor carpet with NO pad under it. Felt like a cement floor.
Internet service not as advertised. They have a screwball system where you have to fill out a form (in a browser) and then it's supposed to be processed and the server is supposed to send access code to your mobile phone. We checked in on Friday and when we checked out on Wednesday, it still hadn't been fixed. Worse yet, NO ONE on staff here is willing to make a call to anyone. So, all the business I need to do gets done at great trouble downtown in a fast food joint with free (but terrible) wifi.
The food in the hotel restaurant is just awful! In France, yet. So, we really can't eat in the hotel, which is OK, but we would like to have the option. Breakfast is 12 Euros each (about $35 for 2) and we look at it, and it's a mediocre little buffet. Except for this hotel, we have had wonderful food every meal here in the Aix-en-Provence city and area. I mean really GOOD. This hotel is a great example of “the exception proves the rule”.

In Summary:

We wouldn't recommend this hotel any friend unless he or she really needs to be on a golf course. I'd warn anyone I know away from it because of the plain room, the Internet service, and the terrible food.

We felt fortunate that we had a rental car during our trip (the purpose of which was attending a wedding with several different venues), because the hotel is in the middle of an office park and wouldn't have been easily accessible if we hadn't had our own transportation.

The rooms are nice and the terrace with the pool is lovely ('tho we wished there had been a nonsmoking area!) and everything was clean, but the price for both the room and the (terribly overpriced) food and drink in the hotel restaurant were just too much money for what you got.

Did have wifi, which was good, and the staff were very nice.

Recently spent a week at the Royal Mirabeau in Aix while on business. The hotel is above average for the area, from what I can tell, but it is a 3 star rated hotel best suited for business travellers.

There was free WifI internet access which was a very big plus and and savings.

The rooms were a good size and clean. However, the AC never cooled the room sufficiently and I kept the window open for cooling,

The staff spoke English, though spotty at times.

The Mona Lisa restaurant was adequate, but the food was nothing very exciting or tasteful.

There were lots of tourists (asian tour buses) and business types staying in the hotel, and the hotel was fully booked most of the time.

The location is good if you are working in the industrial / business zone where the hotel is located. This location is not good for tourists, as Aix center is some 20+ minutes away by car.

I stayed 6 days, but was only charged for two - and I couldn't convince the front desk staff to charge me accordingly!

Overall, I will stay here again, as it is the best hotel in this zone. I still recommend it for business travellers to this area.

It is conveniently located 10 minutes from the TGV train station which will whisk you to Paris.
