“Decent Accomodations”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

Our family stayed at L'Atrium recently. Due to our train schedule, we arrived in Aix en provence early, and the Hotel staff was able to facilitate us checking in early which was great. Our family (4 of us) were booked into one of the "apartments" which as we discovered has one bedroom and a separate living room with a roll out couch- This may be adequate if you are traveling with small children, but both our kids are adults and this wasn't going to work but.. the hotel accomodated us and got us an additional room for them at a decent rate. We found the rooms to be reasonably clean and appointed although all three light fixtures in our bathroom were broken for some reason. The hotel breakfast buffet was very good and the hotel is in a good location- easy walking distance to the center of town- Cours Mirabeau area and fairly close to te train station

“Decent sleep, good value, handy kitchen area and great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

I paid £57 for a late booking and would say it was excellent value. I was nearly put off by the reviews on here but glad I wasn't. The kitchen area was handy with a supermarket directly opposite. The room was quiet, dark and the bed comfortable, I have had a lot worse sleeps in much more expensive hotels. I had a really good sleep both nights and I am a very light sleeper.

The shower was a basic mixer but there was plenty of hot water. The room was generally clean, including inside the microwave and fridge. There were a few stains on the carpet and the toilet lid was broken but I could live with that at £57 Euros. There was plenty of toilet roll, towels and soap.

The location was excellent and the staff spoke good English and were very helpful.

i would definitely recommend this hotel for a short-ish stay on a tight budget. i visited in November and I am sure it was at least 3/4 empty, so you may benefit from a late booking too.

Room Tip: Ensure your room is at the back of the hotel away from the main road.

“Avoid if possible”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

You will get more charm checking into a polyclinic. The hotel is downright depressing.
We stayed with the idea that the kitchenette would be useful with a family. The kitchenette is almost useless apart from heating something up in the microwave, no kettle, no chopping board, no knife to cut bread. There is so much wrong with this hotel i don't know where to start. On the bright side the reception staff were really quite friendly and helpful, and seemed to be making the best of a pretty poor situation, also the location is good.
This place has potential, but as it stands i would avoid it, we moved to the Cardinal for the same price and loved it.

“Average, but with nice staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2011

Arrived after a nightmare drive with small children through Aix in boiling heat, I was greeted by a very pleasant group of receptionists who did their best to make me feel welcome. The family room was ok and the location great. The place is a little soul-less, very much like a large hotel chain. Fine for a stop-over night, and again, great location.

“Terrible experience in Hotel du Soleil”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2011

I mad my reservation to the Hotel du Soleil in Aix en Provence, France thru Hotels.com, whom we have tried to reach to complain but will not respond in three days. WE arrived after a long trip to Aix en Provence, and we could not stay in the hotel. It is run down, dirty, the doors of the corridors squeak, the carpets stained with pink spots in some rooms, we saw 4 different rooms and decided it was disgusting and would ruin Our trip in France if we stayed. we left and paid more or less the same for a much better hotel,
Aquabella, where we found a clean room and excellent service.
I would not recommend this hotel at all, and I dont think that Hotels.com does not check the hotels they are listing, either checking their mails to reply to their unsatisfied customers.
