“Sometimes you get less than you pay for...”

Since this was our first night in France after a red eye from the west coast, it didn't seem to make sense to pay for a fancy room as all we needed it for was a decent night's sleep. While that's what we got, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Our room was at the tippy top meaning that we had a very narrow flight of stairs to drag our suitcases up. Not impossible, but still a challenge. I thought I'd reserved a room with a queen or king bed but what we got was a double and a twin with very little room between the beds. The air conditioner was so noisy that we just cooled the room down as much as possible and then turned it off. Breakfast was okay but nothing special. On the plus side, staff was both friendly and helpful and the location was good for exploring Aix.

Nice simple, clean room. Friendly and helpful reception staff. Good sized balcony with table and chairs and view over street. Great fun watching the on street parking competitions! Large roof terrace with tables, chairs and loungers, plus good roof top views. Easy access to the Old Town and public transport.

“Great location, very good room”

We had one night here on 1 Nov and I can recommend this hotel as a very good base for visiting Aix. The location is excellent, being very much in the historic centre such that sights, shops and restaurants are within very easy walking distance but at the same time it was quiet enough that a good night’s sleep could be had and the hotel felt restful. The room was lovely: bright, spacious, spotless and in tastefully muted colours with a roomy and well-equipped bathroom. The staff were friendly and helpful both during our stay and beforehand on email when we had queries on parking. The hotel’s garage was already full for the night so we used a public car park under the Rotonde which was no more than a couple of minutes walk away and around €19 for 24 hours. The hotel also has a roof terrace with seats and loungers; a good spot for a relax with your own supplies. The rate was good on a room only basis and we found it easy to go out for breakfast as there are many attractive boulangeries or cafes nearby, however the buffet and dining area did look nice. I would certainly stay here again on a return visit to Aix!

“Location, but nothing more”

The good points: great location, helpful staff at the front desk with 24-hr concierge service, inside garage.
Bad points: It is very obvious that the owners have invested into upgrading the lobby of the hotel to attract and impress the visitors, but once you get out of the elevator, it’s like a completely different hotel that has been left untouched for years. The rooms are very old, smelly and completely outdated. Don’t bother buying breakfast. Unless your idea of a hot chocolate is cold water poured over the cocoa powder and wormed in a microwave. This is exactly what we’ve got. Dirty dishes, bad selection of cheap cookies and a waitress who comes out of the toilet with a newspaper and puts it in the pile of newspapers for guests. This is how we’ve seen it. There is a wide variety of breakfast options just a couple of blocks from the hotel, so if you still decide to stay there take advantage of its location and eat breakfast elsewhere.

“Good hotel in Aix”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

I was traveling solo in France, and I was looking for clean, affordable hotels in good quite neighborhoods. That is exactly what I got with Aix.

The hotel is about a 15 minutes walk from the local train station, or the bus drop off for the TGV; however, it was only a few minutes from the heart of the old town. It was on a somewhat main street, but for 2 of the 3 nights I was there, I did not hear anything from the street and I slept solidly through the night.

The hotel looks like it has recently been updated. The lobby was very nice and looked new. The room was a good size and very clean. I stayed in a double, but as a single person, so I was treated with a good sized room. It also looked very new, and it had a great, uncluttered style, that was (surprisingly) more romantic than i thought it would appear. Good sized bathroom and good water pressure (a big pet peeve of mine!). Hotel staff was helpful and they all spoke English. Breakfast was simple, but good.

The hotel was a bit isolated from other hotels. For folks who want to stay in a hotel, with other hotels close by and lots of "action" this might not be the best choice. But for those who are looking for an affordable, grown up hotel, where you can get a good night sleep, this is a good choice for Aix.
