Aix-en-Provence is one of our favorite cities in France other than Paris. It's easy to ride the TGV down and hop the shuttle bus into the center of the city. You really don't need a car, but where to stay? Hotel Saint Christophe was the perfect answer for us last week. It's just one long block from the shuttle bus station, and just around the corner from the bottom end of the Cours Mirabeau. The hotel staff was friendly, we had a very nice room with a terrace, and there was 10% off dinner the first night. Breakfast at 12€ per person may seem a bit pricey, but it was a full spread of croissants, cheeses, yoghurts, fruit, sliced ham, and fresh eggs you could boil yourself to your liking. Their coffee machine dishes out real French coffee, but they did have a pot of "American" stuff going if you need something a bit more wussy. We'll definitely stay here again the next time we want to do a short walking trip to Aix.

The hotel is well situated for a visit of beautiful Aix, and is walking distance to the the train and bus stations. We had a fabulous dinner with excellent service at the restaurant (try the fish soup - divine) although the waitress at breakfast had an attitude.

After reading the reviews, I was determined to stay here. Overall, our experience was quite good. The location can't be beat, right at the Cours Mirabeau and so close to the old town. We paid attention and reserved a parking space in advance. This is essential since there are only about 20 spots, if that. We chose the least expensive room and got what we paid for, nothing fancy, a bit tired, but okay in the end since we didn't want to pay anymore. Would I go back? Yes, but I'd get a better room next time. We chose to skip eating at the hotel because it seems expensive and the reviews did not make it appealing.

Hotel Saint Christophe is the perfect location to base your travels in and around Aix. The hotel is within walking distance (1/2 mile) from the bus depot. You have to take a bus from the high speed train station to get to Aix's town center. Purchase the ticket on board the bus! It's all very easy. From the bus depot (Gare Routier), walk toward the big fountain and the hotel is almost a stone's throw away. The hotel is also next door to the tourist office. Hotel Saint Christophe also houses one of the best restaurants in Aix. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone.
