Definitely only for those with a car. There are supermarkets and touristy areas near by but still need to drive. It's a good place to stay for the value if you want to visit the surrounding Provence region. The room is clean and big with a dining table, kitchenette and even a patio if you want to use it. Though the bed was just a sofa bed. Free wired internet in the room. I think wifi is available in the dining area. Definitely worh staying for a few nights to relax and buy some food to eat in your room. If you just want to be close to the night life and restaurants, this is not the place to go.

We organised to check in late, however soon arriving found that the hotel has a password entry, which we didn't know. A guest let us in, only to find that the reception was unstaffed. After a drama, and many phone calls to numbers that were never answered we finally got instructions on how to get our key from a safety deposit box. Had to call an emergency number to get that.

All this could have been avoided if the hostal had bothered to email us a passcode and tell us where our key would be. Totally hopeless service and a sour start to our stay here.

The hotel is 25mins walk from the city, or a short bus ride. The busses stop early, so you need to cab if you want a night out. Be warned about the distance from aix centre.

The room is ok. Comments about the dorm feeling of the entire place is spot on. Many long term residents domiciled here.

My toddler, husband and I stayed at the Citadines during my husband's recent business trip. The hotel looks and feels like a glorified college dorm - linoleum floors, painted concrete walls and very basic bathroom. The three of us slept together on a fold-out sofa, not exactly the most comfortable bed.

On the upside, the room had a balcony with a beautiful view of the Vasarely Foundation across the street and mountainous scenery beyond. We also made great use of the kitchenette and prepared breakfasts and dinners in the room quite a bit.

Locationwise, it's a 20-25 minute walk to get to downtown Aix on foot, but the bus stop is just beyond the parking lot. Internet connection requires a cable plug-in and is very slow. The front desk is not staffed 24-hours a day, and housekeeping only comes once a week., we managed to get fresh towels delivered once during our weeklong stay.

I found the room comfortable and clean. The problem, however, is that the site is well beyond walking distance from the city centre and while there are bus routes, they finish at ten pm on weekdays, and on Sundays finish at six pm and are quite infrequent. If you are picking this for a leisure stay, be warned that you won't be able to have a night out unless you're willing to pay cab fares or avoid drinking!
