“Hotel adequate, location great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2011

This is definitely not an elegant hotel, but the location is great. It also has a fridge and small stove which makes breakfast and lunch - or packing sandwiches, very easy. The rooms are fine. Make sure your door locks when you leave. Ours did not. We didn't realize it until a day into our stay. We pulled the door behind us and realized it didn't lock. We had to get the guy at the front to help us and he couldn't lock it either. It had to be played with for a bit for it to lock. The rooms have a balcony which is really nice. We visited in February and it was a great time of year. Nice weather and few crowds. Aix is a great place and I can't wait to go back and would stay at the same hotel. The price is good for the location. Also, try the pizza place across the street at the bowling ally. Very good!

“Tired and tacky, 2-star only”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2011

Whoever said this is a 4-star hotel obviously never looked further than the lobby. This is definitely 2-star standard. We spent a week here for a family holiday. On our arrival, we were given a room on the first floor and it was not nice. There were stains on the carpet, a cigarette burn in the bedcover and the room felt generally tacky. We asked to be moved, which they did (though seemed rather incredulous about our criticism). Our new room was also on the first floor, but at least they had replaced the carpet with some fake-wood floorcovering, which felt cleaner. Having said that, the double bed was in a sort of alcove, which did have brown carpet, and yes, it had a few stains. The alcove could be screened off by pulling across a tacky-looking fake japanese screen thing, but we didn't bother. Because we had changed rooms, the sofa bed wasn't made up, so we had to ask the night porter for some sheets, which he sort of threw at us. We only had one child with us, so the sofa bed was adequate. However, if you have 2 children, note that the fourth "bed" is just a pull-out thing on wheels which comes from under the sofa-bed. If you use this, I think the room would be very cramped indeed. A cleaner did come in every day to make the beds and clean the bathroom, and you could get fresh towels if you wanted them (though there is a note in the bathroom asking you to re-use your towels for the sake of the environment). The bathroom was clean, but again poorly decorated. The room had a kitchenette with sink, dishwasher (bizarre!), microwave, fridge and two-ring stove. There was cutlery, crockery etc if you wanted to risk using it. The best thing about the hotel was the pool, which was a reasonable size and had loungers. If you have children, take note that the water was freezing. Ok if the air temp is 30 degrees, but still a shock to the system! The hotel is located down a poorly lit residential street, but the neighbourhood seemed safe enough and it was quiet. It is only a 10-minute walk from the town centre or train station, and a 5-minute walk from the bus station. There are 2 breakfasts, an Express or a Buffet. The Express is cheaper and consists of a croissant, a roll and a mini pain au chocolat, plus the usual drinks and juices (all of which come from a machine). We gave up on this and bought food from the supermarket which we prepared in our room, and that turned out to be better value. Some guests we spoke to do return to this hotel, but we would probably not.

Room Tip: Apparently rooms on the 3rd floor have balconies, but are still small rooms.

“Not too bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2011

I'd read some of the negative reviews on Trip Advisor and was worried that this hotel might be very disappointing, but actually it was perfectly adequate - although I definitely agree with the other reviews who said it should be classed as a 3 star, not a 4 star

The hotel is down a narrow residential side street only 5 mins walk from where the airport bus drops you off - so that was quite handy. But to get into the old town of Aix you're looking at an 8-10 minute walk. During the day this is fine, but at night you have to walk through a slightly dodgy area which was frequented by tramps and drunks - so we felt a bit concerned for our safety. It seems almost impossible to find a taxi at night in Aix so if you're out late (like we were) then you'll probably have to walk home.

My room was on the ground floor and was clean and a reasonable size, although the decor was a bit shabby and faded, and in 1970s style. My friend had a room on the 3rd floor which was more modern and had been renovated, but it was only half the size of mine and you couldn't swing a cat in the bathroom (it did however have a very nice balcony!) The little kitchenettes are a good idea.

The hotel has free WIFI, which is great...........although I couldn't get a signal in my ground floor room and had to keep going up to the 3rd floor every time I wanted to check the internet. The swimming pool is small but in a nice quiet area behind the hotel. The breakfast was fine and the reception staff were always friendly and very helpful

I would come back here again because it's good value for money and fine, as long as you don't expect anything too fancy

“Good but NOT A 4 STAR”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2011

Firstly whoever rated this as a 4 star got it wrong.
It certainly is not, however, that said , it remains a good 3 star hotel.
As with most 3 stars in Europe it needs a touch of paint here and there and the carpets need a good clean , but you dont go to Provence to stay in your room.
The kitchenettes are functional and will save you a small fortune as AIX is expensive to eat out in, and sadly lacking decent places to eat for a decent price.
The rooms are clean and with cable TV and you can find something aside from BBC news in English.
The breakfasts are expensive at 14 euros a pop so we didnt bother and again saved ourselves a ot of money.
So Good Points.

2 minutes from the bus terminal
5 minutes from the local train station ( not the TVG which is 10 minutes by bus out of town )
Clean
Helpful staff
Free safe
Good air con

less good points

not a 4 star by any means
needs tidying up a bit
over priced breakfasts
and helpful staff who sadly on 4 different occasions got it wrong when asked about bus and train times.

All in all a great location 5 minutes walk to what is a beautiful little town.

“Don't stay here.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2011

We are a couple in their 30's and stayed here for one night in mid Jun11. The hotel location is not the best. You will need to walk down a rocky road before getting to most of the things - bus stop, restaurants and shops. The room is old with small bathroom and shower. The reception desk is not very friendly being quite cold to our queries.

Compared to the price we paid, this is not a hotel worth of recommending. The good side is that we had one hour free Wi Fi during our stay.
