We stayed 2 nights in Francois 1er and couldn´t have been more happy about our stay.

We were in the very heart of the old town of La Rochelle, but on a very quiet street with private (!) parking on an own fenced yard, which seemed almost impossible to find with other hotels in La Rochelle.

The room nr.16 we stayed in was on the ground level, very spacious, bathroom was with under floor heating (!), and everything felt 100% clean. A plus for the historic decor of the room :)

The only minuses are poor sound proofing (you can hear the doors slamming in the morning, VERY, very well), and a rather limited breakfast.

But the staff were very friendly (the overall ambience between the staff and the guests in the hotel was very good), most of the staff spoke English, and free wi-fi was available throughout the hotel. So for the €65/night we paid I´m confident we couldn´t have got better value anywhere in La Rochelle!

The three of use stayed here, clean rooms, good French breakfast, excellent location for a walk around town after a day in the car.

This hotel is perfectly situated, in a quiet street, in the city centre, it also has the advantage of limited, (bookable) parking, an option to consider as parking in La Rochelle, is a nightmare.
We had a three night stay, room 19 on the ground floor, overlooking the car park, but nonetheless, quiet. We were pleasantly received by the staff, and nothing was to much trouble for them, particularly helpfull in restaurant choices.
The room was comfortable enough, twin beds, desk, chairs etc, with a decent bathroom, but as in the case of all old buildings, repairs and maintaince is always reguired, and this hotel needed some attention.
The breakfast area is on the small size, and the choice is very poor, and of all the hotels we have used on this trip, (5) this offered the least choice.
However, La Rochelle is definately worth visiting, and if, like us, are on the move, this hotel, because of its parking facility, will serve the need.
It is a good value hotel

Rooms are basic, but clean. The small breakfast room was somewhat chaotic during the peak period. The staff however were excellent and very friendly. The car park was useful as parking is difficult in the central part of La Rochelle.
