Thank goodness Mercure have started putting kettles in the rooms as it makes the stay so much more pleasant. Access to the hotel is a problem, not because it is difficult, but because the website directs one to Vieux Port Sud and the Gare. However if it said go to parking St Nicholas or even the Aquarium, it would take one straight to the hotel. As it is I drove round a myriad of roads in La Rochelle, which is not the easiest of towns to drive round, asked lots of people the way, only to find that had I followed Parking St Nicholas I would have gone straight there. The private car park is a real bonus once you have found the hotel, because parking is not easy in La Rochelle and can be expensive depending where you park. Once parked in the hotel car park I didn't use the car for 4 days because everything is in walking distance or you can hire a bike at the tourist office about 100 metres from the hotel.
