“Pleasantly Suprised”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2010

Good reviews on Tripadvisor and not disapointed. Large spacious reception area, and friendly staff. Simple but clean room with all the usual facilities, and car park outside the room window. Used the attached restaurant in the evening and ate a good, hot, and quickly served meal. The menu is a typical motel type but with German / French interpretation. It appears to be owned or run by a German Brewery, Kantabrau, so is themed to their products. Breakfast was 8 euros per person and was the usual continental but lots to choose from. If I am to be very picky, I would have preferred a wall shower over the bath instead of the hand held variant, but that is all. Cost of the room alone was just over £49.00

“Nice place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 May 2010

Stayed for one night - a sunday when the restaurant was closed so can't comment on that, however the room was clean and pleasent and quiet. The staff were helpful in suggesting eating alternatives and how to get to the 'Old town' area as the Hotel was in the 'Suburbs' - easy to find from major roads though. The cathedral is a must see. We ate in the next door Campanile Hotel which was ok. The continental Breakfast was simple but sufficient.

“Modest hotel of some character, excellent Restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2008

There is an intimate atmosphere about this hotel, partly because it is smaller than many, and partly because the staff seem to have a philosophy of trying to make each guest feel special. My wife and I stayed here for one night when travelling through France in 2005, and did so again in May 2008. There is ample parking, and the town is an easy walk away. The charming helpful receptionists have sufficient English to be able to communicate with such as myself with limited French!

The room was pleasant with a flat screen tv, although we could not find any English channels in our brief examination. There was a fridge
/mini bar, although not well stocked! There were no tea/coffee making facilities. The walls seemed thick - we were not disturbed by other guests at all and were very comfortable. There are steps into the hotel which make it slightly difficult to handle luggage. The hotel is often fully booked, so it is wise to book beforehand.

The excellent restaurant is found in a cavern beneath the hotel, and provides a professional service with menus to suit all tastes and budgets with distinctive French food. There is a lengthy wine list, although not many cheaper wines - we loved the wine we chose as well as the food. The restaurant is popular with locals, so it is wise to reserve a table when booking the hotel. Breakfast is an informal affair at ground level - meats, cheeses, fruit and cereals are available, and you can boil yourself an egg if you wish.

This hotel and this quaint town deserve more that a one nights stay. Maybe one day!

“Pleasant stop-over”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2007

This was our first night of a two week tour of France having taken the Hull-Zebrugge ferry. It was just the right distance away. The room was clean, the staff friendly and the restaurant very pleasant. Being our first day, our school boy/girl French was a extremely rusty but the staff were very understanding and courteous. My husband was happy that he could park the motorbike within sight of our room window. It was a cloudy day and the area the hotel is in is a little commercial so I could not describe it as a pretty setting. All in all it proved a very nice stop-over hotel. There is the town's swimming pool across the road, which could be handy. We felt we had to get on the motor bike to explore Laon itself; we did not feel inclined to walk.

  • Liked — Friendliness of staff, cleanliness & parking
  • Disliked — Would have preferred it to be closer to the old town centre

“loved the food and matching wines”

Enjoyed the quiet and simple service of this country hostellerie. Only 3 star but the restaurant and wine list makes it a 5 star.
Arrived hungry and tired in very hot weather in July to enjoy one of the best meals and accompanying wines in a long time. There is a menu degustatcion and also the sommeliers choice of accompanying wines. Seventh Heaven.
It is only a short stroll to the middle of beautiful Nuits-st-georges and its lovely bars and cafes and Tea shop - the only place to have your morning or afternoon coffee in its old worldly air-conditioned space/ Just two small tables but the coffee is the best I've tasted in France in years. A lovely big cup of French coffee, not Italian or other types A short drive in any direction places you in the middle of the most famous vineyards in the world. Just look at the names of all the small towns and villages and you understand some of the lables and names of great wines all in the one valley. Loved every minute of our stay there.
