We have now stayed twice at the Hotel de Londres in Saumur, the hotel itself has a great french cartoon theme thing going on. Tintin, Lucky Luke and Asterix pictures are everywhere plus there are 1000 comic books to borrow from reception. I would highly recommend it for families looking for an overnight stop on the way to the South West such as the Dordogne etc.
We had a family room with a double bed and bunk beds for 85 euros, the room is well equipped (TV, sizeable bathroom etc)and there is free wireless. The owner tells us they are planning to knock through some of the smaller rooms next year and create a couple of suites with your own cooking facilities as well. It is centrally located with secure parking and a short walk to Rue St Nicholas where there are lots of decent restaurants. This time we ate at Pizza Mono which cooks the pizzas in an old bread oven and has a great range of well balanced and unusual toppings plus good kids meals. They serve breakfast (kids eat free)but don't have a restaurant at Hotel Londres but this makes it more fun because you can try out the range of other places to eat. There are plenty of good trad French restaurants as well (We ate in Auberge St Pierre last time and it was good too) All in all a great family stopover in a beautiful town.
