The night we stayed there was a contingent of [British] Alvis owner's club staying. I guess that is a recommendation in itself for I am sure classic car clubs form a network. We had a large room in the courtyard, which was great and very quiet. The only problem was the pitch black nature at night -- no light pollution like most of the UK -- made visiting the toilet interesting as the floor had a small step. Breakfast was good; dinner looked over priced compared with eating out in the old town.
Would I go again? Yes as a stop off but no as a base for visiting the Loire -- Saumur is too much of a one horse town compared [say] Angers, Blois etc.

We booked two nights in Saumur to break up our journey to the Dordogne. Anne d'Anjou came out well on Tripadvisor so it seemed a natural choice. As we found out, Saumur is not in the top echelons when it comes to hotels. The Adagio seemed OK and the location of the Kyriad seemed bleak! All in all, the Anne d'Anjou was probably the best of a mediocre selection. The weather probably didn't help as it was dull and cold in a disappointing May but the hotel didn't particularly lift the spirits. We were given a river facing room having booked a 'Tradition' but I was underwhelmed when entering the room. I could see little 'Tradition', it was quite small and if you opened the window you were drowned out by traffic noise. The best part of the room was the bathroom which was modern if compact. There is no air conditioning so on a hot July/August night opening the window would lead to a sleepless experience as the frequent traffic rushes past. Other than the charming young guy who showed us to our room, the staff seemed fairly indifferent, the elderly man who I assume was the owner/manager was positively rude when I asked for a receipt on payment. The little courtyard at the back would be pleasant to enjoy a drink overlooking the chateau on a balmy evening but alas, the weather made that impossible. Parking costs 10 euros a night but be careful to avoid parking under the tree, a carwash was necessary the next day! There is free parking on the pavement opposite the hotel or on the lower level nearer the river if you are prepared to risk that. All in all, an OK visit to an OK hotel with a disappointing room. When driving through France next time we will give Saumur a miss and look for better hotels in a different town or village.

Stayed here in April, 2006. Location was great, the room was lovely and the staff was great. The only issue was that the room had not been prepared for two people and so linens and supplies had to be sent up.

We paid a little more for a huge room at the front overlooking the Loire but the cheaper rooms at the back had a very nice courtyard view and I'm sure they'd be fine. It was really hot while we were there and the fan in the room helped but we had the windows open and there was traffic noise at the front which you'd avoid at the back. We were very comfortable and the hotel was quite charming, the staff extremely helpful and friendly. We didn't have the breakfast or dinner because the cafes and restaurants in the main square are only a short walk and since it's such a picture postcard town it would have been a shame not to enjoy it properly. Parking isn't signed (it's down the small side road to one side of the hotel) and there's public parking on the riverside across from the hotel.

Great value, nice town, wonderful views from the Chateau above the hotel and all in all strongly recommended.
