It's the location that makes this hotel.
To ensure quiet, ask for a courtyard room (faces the chateau) rather than facing the Loire, since the road runs that side - being a historic building there is no double-glazing or air conditioning.
Hotel is few minutes walk from centre of the old town, with great choice of restaurants and bars at all price levels. Hotel and information office both have helpful, English-speaking staff.
Hotel's breakfast overpriced and can be bettered at boulangeries and patisseries.
Chateau has two years to completion of a huge restoration, but is being re-opened in stages as sections are completed. Well worth half a day or more.

We booked via Bookings.com very easy and very good value. Overall the service and staff were excellent. We had to work on one day and the hotel staff were very accomodating. The rooms are basic but big enough and value as we paid 66 euro per night. The breakfast was good and you can eat as much as you like for 11 euros each. Very good location and good base.
If you are looking for a 5* amazing romantic hotel then you need to stay somewhere else and pay 5* price. This is a lovely hotel right under the Château and fantastic locations.

A nice old hotel in the Loire. Great location to tour the Loire Valley, return and have nice dinner in the hotel restaurant or one of the restaurants in Saumer. However - a "view of the river" also means you are over the main street along the river - so beware the noise. And as this hotel, as do many in the French provinces, do not have AC it means you either keep your windows open and have the traffice drive through your room or close the window, suffocate and still have the traffice drive through your room.

A very nice hotel and perfectly situated for a visit to the the château and other sights.
A lovely room overlooking the river Loire.
A choice of private secure parking or plenty of free off road parking opposite the hotel.
The room was comfortable and the breakfast good if a little limited.
Friendly staff with enough English to get by.
Unfortunately, when we were there, the château was closed and undergoing major renovation work.
I can't speak or read French, but from the little that I could understand, I think it has been closed for over three years, and no sign of it re-opening any time soon.
