We chose this hotel based on its favorable Tripadvisor reviews along with its reasonable price and were not disappointed. It's literally across the street from the Angers train station, super convenient for train travellers. The interior of the hotel is cute, just as shown in the hotel website photos, with what appear to be custom painted details on the walls. Our room was not huge but sufficient for two people with two suitcases; it included a small closet as well as writing area and chair. It was very clean and relatively quiet, as the window faced a courtyard-type area away from the train station. As a previous poster noted: the wifi access was not great from within the room; however, it worked fine down in the lobby. The receptionists were friendly and helpful. Given the hotel's central location and the relatively small size of Angers, it's possible to sightsee even without a car; aside from the old town area itself, some of the sites we were able to visit included Chateau d'Angers with its impressive ramparts and the Apocalypse tapestries, Cathedrale Saint Maurice (with an informal organ
practice in progress when we arrived), the Tour Saint Aubin, and the Jardin des Plantes. We wished we'd had more time to spend in Angers; if we have a chance to visit again, we would not hesitate to stay at the Hotel de la Gare again.
